Ok, I've added the missing data that Greg sent me. I had to re-arrange the posts and put Greg's 7th post into Puck's post 8 reply as the missing data took the posts over the 100,000 character limit which exists.

Hopefully it reads smoothly, and Puck's reply in post 8 is still captured in Greg's post 9.

1970 didn't look like a vintage year for George Best, at least not concerning his goal exploits.

In 1969-70, only 3 of the 15 goals he scored that season were scored in 1970 and of 18 goals he scored the following season, only 6 were scored in 1970.

Maybe he had more champagne consumption in that year. ;)

Maybe he had another role or position in the other games of the year/season.

It would be interesting to see the drawning line-up, at least of the champion side :)

Everton is not an easy case, because I am not familiar with the positions of some players. For instance, John Hurst - who wore the #10 shirt - supposedly was a central defender. At least that's what Wikipedia says. But he might have been a midfielder in 1970 and only later became a central defender (by 1972 he started to wear the #6 shirt which in British football is assigned to central defenders).

So here's my take on Everton in 1969-70:

    -----11 John Morrissey------9 Joe Royle------7 Jimmy Husband

    --------6 Colin Harvey-------8 Alan Ball------4 Howard Kendall

    --3 Sandy Brown----10 John Hurst------5 Brian Labone------2 Tommy Wright

    ----------------------------1 Gordon West

Actually I am not sure how that Everton midfield really shaped up. Might have been shaped like a triangle, with Kendall the defensive part.

Perhaps Roy can shed some light on this?

Second-placed Leeds is easier to sketch:

    ----------------------------9 Mick Jones
    -------------8 Allan Clarke----------------7 Peter Lorimer

    -----------------------------10 Johnny Giles
    --------------11 Paul Madeley---------------4 Billy Bremner

    -3 Terry Cooper---6 Norman Hunter----5 Jackie Charlton----2 Paul Reaney

    ---------------------------1 Gary Sprake

    Thanks Greg!!

At first sight, Everton line-up, doesn't look so impressive (i'm familiar only with 3 players). At least comparing to Leeds (for south american eyes).

And who, were the better players this season?
