    Friendly for 12th November.

    Supposedly confirmed.

Seems a bit pointless from Scotland's point of view. It's not as if we've got to prepare for the World Cup in the summer or anything.

I think there are only 2 dates available before Euro 2008 qualifying begins - November vs. the US and February vs. Switzerland.

My point is that game will do nothing for us.

It's a decent game IMO. They're slightly better than us but they are the kind of side who we should be looking to emulate i.e. they always make it to world cups (albeit from a laughably easy confederation) and are competitive when they get there.

Plus, we have to play somenbody, why not them?

I think we'll be defeated heavily, but with any luck we'll try out a formation that's reasonably forward-looking and attacking to put us in good stead for the qualifiers.

Should be an interesting game. The U.S. usually does not fare too well when visiting across the pond, so it might be more evenly matched than some think. I don't think it is a useless game at all for Scotland so long as it is played with a mind to future competitions, especially because the U.S. will likely play a more American style than the usual competition drummed up for friendlies.

It'll be useful from the US's point of view, to play against a team from a proper confederation.

Aye, good preparation for when they get past the first round at the World Cup. When was the last time Scotland managed that?!

    Quite a long time ago.

I was serious, though. Scotland, poor as we are, are better opposition than almost everyone in CONCACAF. Mexico, Costa Rica, USA... fast running out of teams that are anything above "diddy" status.

At least we've got a snowball's chance in hell of ever qualifying for a tournament sometime in the future. Northern Irwland can't even be competitive in a pish easy group.

You mean the Scotland side that couldn't beat Slovenia at home or Moldovia away. Scotland may win but it won't be a cake walk. The USMNT will field a mostly european squad with a few MLS players so we should be very competitive.

You can't count the games at home to Slovenia or Moldova, B*rti was in charge then. You can say we lost 1-0 at home to Belarus, but you can also say we beat Slovenia 3-0 away, Norway 2-1 away and drew at home with Italy 1-1 (those are our last 4 games).

I think this one will be close, Scotland are recovering post-b*rti and are getting a good team together. USA are a confident side (used to winning against diddy countries :p) who have some decent players. Nothing for either team to be overly fearful of.

What pish easy group was that? Was that the one which included a Wales team which humped you 4-0 not so long ago? (Oh aye, I forgot "Berti was in charge". Pish -- you can only beat what's put in front of ye!) The same one which included England, against whom we were pretty competitive when we beat them 1-0? We played well in eight of the ten games, only the home match against Poland and the England game at Old Trafford were one-sided affairs in favour of our opponents.

I would, as wee Kevin Keegan once said, love it if we drew Scotland in the Euro qualifiers.

And didn't our U-21s beat their Scottish counterparts earlier in the year? The future's bright... :D

I'd love it too if Scotland and NI are in the same group, 6 easy points :p

No I mean the Scotland side that drew 1-1 with Italy and should have won.

A mostly European squad? Which countries are they playing in? Belgium? Luxemburg? Andorra?

Probably, if any of us cared a tiny bit about a team from a diddy confederation.

Typical Rangers fan wanting to see Scotland lose :)
