Great take out of the air and flick on to Harit. Wins the ball back but stalls and loses it leading to a good chance for Koln. '12 0-0
Did well to get to a loose pass in Schalke's 3rd and play it first time to Harit on the move. Giving Naldo advice before CK. '17 0-0
He's defending as the RCM #8 next to Meyer but when Schalke advances the ball he's making runs into the space between the midfield and in front of Koln's backline.
I feel like I must be watching a different game. I thought McKennie looked excellent that half (far better than Pulisic earlier today). He showed for the ball well, made some great runs, hustled back and pressured all over the pitch, won the ball back several times, won headers, had multiple clearances on defense inside his own box, kept the ball moving on offense, and even had a small role in Schalke's lone goal. He's been all over the pitch, and everywhere he's been, he's made a positive impact. If he's the first sub, it'll be because he's run himself ragged for his team, and it'll be to strong applause.
I think a lot of us are eager for Wes to become more than he currently is and are taking pains to caution ourselves against over-selling him. May lead to some overly critical views that are more appropriate for a seasoned vet instead of a 19-year-old kid, but it's a hell of a lot better than over-hyping him.
He is not playing bad, I just don't think he is doing enough to be kept during the tougher, crucial games, it will come with time.
Overall more good than bad from Wes, he'll continue to improve. My only concern is that he looks pretty slow.
He is not slow, his issue is with stop-n-go sequences or cutting laterally, remember, he is a little tank and takes a step or two to change directions.
I do not think he is slow. To me, he looks as though he has some tactical work to do. He does not anticipate well without the ball, which hopefully comes with time, so he seems to just be running in circles when he is off the ball. Because of that, he seems to be slow. I sincerely don't think that is a problem.
