(from http://www.a-league.com/news/2002/news,2002,0725.shtml) SAVE THE VANCOUVER WHITECAPS AND BREAKERS SOCCER CLUBS! Courtesy of the Vancouver Whitecaps/Breakers Supporters' Club Please help us in our efforts to save the Vancouver Whitecaps and Breakers Soccer Clubs from extinction! On Sunday, September 22nd, an online petition was created, one that called for Greater Vancouver's radio stations to consider broadcasting Whitecaps game commentary on their airwaves. However, with last month's announcement from United Soccer League's chief operating officer Dave Askinas that the Whitecaps and Breakers have only until late October to find a new owner or face closure, the petition has taken on much greater importance. While still officially a petition to get the Whitecaps a radio deal, it should now also be seen as a "Save the Whitecaps/Breakers" drive. As the hunt to find a new owner for the clubs continues, we as fans of professional soccer must do our part in letting such prospective owners know how passionately we feel about the teams, and the sport of soccer overall. In these tough economic times, prospective owners may be hesistant to make a large investment in the Whitecaps and Breakers. This is where we as soccer fans are all needed - to demonstrate our passion for the sport, in order to reassure any prospective owner that we will all stand soundly behind the Whitecaps and Breakers. We must all make our voices heard, that we will not stand idly by and watch as BC's only professional soccer team and most prominent women's team face extinction! Please do your part in helping support the Whitecaps and Breakers by signing our petition! It is located on the web at: http://www.petitiononline.com/whitecap/ Your signature now means so much more than just a radio deal - it means the difference between the continued existence or closure of the Vancouver Whitecaps and Breakers Soccer Clubs. On behalf of soccer fans everywhere, thank you very much for your support!
Don't be scared to sign people, the more signatures the better. You know what really sucks. The Breakers attract so much more fans than any W-League team and there the ones that might leave. I think that is just wrong.
