ahahahahahahahahhaa!!! us? hosting the world cup?

Haven't heard anything about allowing local women into international games or any woman in a local match, but even if it is true (and that would be great) we still don't have a chance in hell.

If this change is happening it's more likely so that we're not banned from the world cup and other sporting events.

So, for Saudi Arabia to get the finals in 2026, they need a 2018 and 2022 to go to anywhere but Asia.

Assuming Asia don't host any of these world cups, then you can assume that KSA will be bidding against Korea, Japan, Qatar, Australia to name just four nations. Honestly, with the way the bidding is done, they don't really have a cat in hells chance for a hell of a long time.

I went to KSA v. Brazil in Riyadh and there were some Brazilian women there.
or any woman in a local match, but even if it is true (and that would be great) we still don't have a chance in hell.

That is actually not a far-fetched scenario at all.

Can't see Saudi getting the WC... Doha is bidding for it but I have my doubts.. the only way the gulf can host the world cup imo is a joint Qatar/UAE bid...

I read something along these lines in an Indian sports magazine some months ago. I'll try and locate a link or take a picture of the article and post it here.

It said that UAE and Oman would be co hosts. Sounds incredulous as these two teams would be automatic qualifiers, which obviously wouldn't go down too well with the rest of the AFC.

But the bigger issue is the absolutely unbearable heat of the June/July months. That would be the real reason for the WC not coming to the ME.

This WC unfortunately has no teams from the ME.
Hope FIFA awards a WC to a ME country in the future and offsets the loss.:D

I think FIFA is against the idea of anymore Joint bids.

I've always wondered why Saudi Arabia hasn't hosted any regional competitions like the Asian cup. Surely we need to build up from those before putting our heads in the clouds.

They let China have the summer olympics so anything can happen.

Just think of all them Confederations Cup's you guys hosted and yet no one even tried to follow it through. It's like lost ground to nations such as Qatar and the UAE now.

Before they ever get a look in at World Cup level, they need to be serious about hosting an Asian Cup or a Club World Cup.

Confed cups at the time were pretty minor tournaments but still I think all we've hosted since then is a gulf cup and a U-17 World cup....WTF?

Of course, I'll lay the blame at Sultan bin Fahd's feet.

As a South korean living in saudi arabia, I don't think you guys have much chance. The extremely hot weather is one thing, but Saudi is hardly known as a tourist destination, so it will have hard time attracting foreign travelers. Plus, transportation will be another problem, cos taxis are NOT reliable (have heard all sorts of stories from my teachers lol) and I'm not even sure that buses exist. Things will have to change quickly if Saudi is to stand any chance of hosting the cup.

The only way i see that being handled is through building dome-stadiums with air conditioners (similar to tokyo dome), but that will cost a LOT of oil $$$, even for Saudi's standards.

ugh huh - well that will take care of the players in the stadium but what about the fans when they want to go out of their hotel for a coffee or something? I almost passed out the other day just going from a restaurant to my car across the street the other day here in Doha - it was like 55 degrees. The Middle East in general becomes a ghost town during the summers and there's a good reason for it. The only solution I can see is to try and hold the world cup in the winter...

Unfortunately, there is no way to handle the fans heat lol, I'm out of ideas for that one. It was once 62 degrees here in al-khobar; I couldn't even walk properly.
