Yeah -- it's really difficult to build a cohesive team/team identity when you only have two games in the first month of the season. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot more coordination and smoother play when we're on a 'normal' schedule.
I heard that the schedule gaps are partially caused by the Western Conference having one more team than the Eastern Conference this season and the uneven schedule that followed. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
This week's break is because of the international window. MLS leaves it up to the teams to choose whether they want to be scheduled in international windows, and the Quakes usually opt out. 12 MLS teams will play this weekend, 11 will not.
I didn't realize it was an option but I'm glad we take the international windows off. We seem to have a lot of players that rep their country.
Because heaven forbid the league make sure there is balance in the conferences before admitting new teams...or that the teams joining control their venues. The schedule is such a cluster these days. After the Quakes were out of the playoffs last year I stopped watching, partly because I never even knew when the games were going to be played. They extended that "surprise" philosophy to the regular season this year, so I'm expecting some low attendance and viewership figures for the older teams.
Wow, This is a tough game to call, not sure which Quake team will show up. I also don't know when Vako, Cummings and Godoy return from National team duty. Tempted to start the lineup we have seen, though would like to see Qiborg in for Salinas, though not sure that is going to happen. I would also like to see Thompson and Hyka subbed in around the 70 minute mark for whomever is lagging/tired, I think they both deserve minutes on the field. I would like to say I would also like Tarbell not to start, and that is not going to happen, unfortunately. He is athletic, but he just doesn't anticipate what is going to happen well enough, IMHO.
Vako and Georgia play a friendly against Estonia tomorrow, so, should be back in time for the weekend, but, perhaps a little travel weary. Georgia next plays internationally on June 4th. We have an away game at Chicago on the 2nd, and then home against LAFC on the 9th. Panama plays tomorrow at Switzerland. But, then the run up to the WC and then the WC could see our Panamanians gone awhile. May 29th Home against Northern Ireland June 5th Away against Norway June 18th WC June 24th WC June 28th WC
I assume the odd timing relates to the fact this game is one of the Quakes' rare national TV appearances this season. (Because New York).
