With the Rapids now 7 points ahead of the Quakes with two games remaining, there’s no way we can overtake them in the western conference standings.
If we tie or lose to Colorado, we get our first trophy in a long time. ORL is only threatened if we win both of our last 2 games! ORL stands at 25 points with 3 games left vs Seattle, Columbus, and RBNY (away) SJ stands at 20 points with 2 games left vs Colorado and Seattle (away)
Don't be ridiculous! We'd have to win our two remaining games. We haven't won two in a row all season. The Wooden Spoon is ours, and rightfully so. We are the very worst team in the league. Go Quakes!! - Mark
"MATCH PREVIEW: Quakes to face Colorado Rapids in final home match of 2018" (SJEarthquakes.com - Tuesday, 10/16/18) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
If you managed to be glued in to this disaster of a season even past the halfway point, I'm impressed. For the rest of us, looking ahead to 2019 is the only way to maintain any ability to care about the team. But really, the Stahre firing and the hiring of Almeyda is what really kicked it into high gear. The Earthquakes playing the Rapids this late in the year is about the least interesting thing that could possibly happen in MLS this year.
And I've thought she looked good in some high level women's matches. What I'm not really trusting of at all any more is the VAR process. That has been crazy inconsistent. It seems much more so than when it first started. The same thing bothers me about NFL's version of video review this season and late on last season. Seems like working systems got broken. It does in truth worry me somewhat that MLS does not want Landon's record broken. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I think they feel like Landon is a much more desirable poster boy for the league to have the most goals than is Wondo. I'll just hope nothing happens at all even vaguely controversial related to Wondo and goals--that he just scores a couple clear ones no one can dispute or 2nd guess in any way, not thru subjective "official scoring" or thru anything that might get reviewed. And also I hope some of the other guys play really well like they're playing for jobs because they'd like to stay and play for the new high profile coach....and that the first timer ref does a good job and that'd like to see him again. They need good younger ones for sure.
Yes, you are being paranoid. It's good when records get broken, it brings attention to the league. Wondo will break the record, and at some point in the future his record will be broken and attention will put on that occasion.
Maybe she is paranoid, but I have no doubt that the league would prefer Landon Donovan retain the record. Didn't they prematurely name a trophy for him before he unretired to go along with the trophy renamed to honor Uncle Phil? Why not wait until these clowns are dead?
I'm sure they'd be much happier if the record were broken by someone playing in Lost Angesleaze, or New Yawk, maybe Atlanta or Seattle. When Narcissus played for us, the league all but ignored him. The minute he moved to Smell-lay (under extremely circumspect circumstances) he became the league poster boy. I don't think that the league will actively make an effort to prevent Wondo from getting the record, but they sure won't wax poetic about it. Oh, and there will be lots of comments like "how many more goals would he have scored if he'd played for a good team, like the evil, cheating water stealers?" Go Quakes!! - Mark
If the league treated Wondo with the respect accorded Baby Judas, they would re-name the Golden Boot in his honor. But they won't. So, I rest my case.
