Kudos to those who stayed to watch, but my seats are not under a roof. I watched from the Chili's on Coleman. Sorry but Avaya is as bad as Candlestick for magnifying iffy weather. I don't need another 2 week long cold because Fisher doesn't want to put a skin on that place and keep it from being a wind tunnel. They got their season ticket money from me, I'm two of those 15,000 they claim were there. It was fun watching replays, specially #145, which I thought was a bad cross when it got to Ousted's hands and face palmed just in time to miss the quintessential poacher goal .
I ran out cuz I wanted to make sure I got my Wondo pins! How’s that for an excuse? Actually, the platinum lot was fairly empty by the time we got to the car. I noticed a lot of fans started to leave at the 80th minute. BTW, thank you very much to @tenfourteen for giving me win pin #1. Such a sweetie! (You too Don). Always fun meeting another BSer for the first time!
I hadn't thought about the possibility that I could've poached some under-roof seats if I had shown up. I'm too honest for my own good
Are we really going to s*** on people actually bothered to show up... for leaving after the game? That’s a whole new level of gatekeeping. You’re not a true fan unless you stay in your seat in the rain/cold/wind even AFTER the game is over...
TFC is missing Pozuelo (red card today) next week against us. I imagine Chicago and Toronto coaches and GMs have to be Quaking in their boots right now. Quakes are the Typhoid Mary of MLS this season. I don’t care if Quakes make the playoffs this year. This team has been so entertaining this year (even when losing), that I’ve almost gotten my money’s worth of entertainment already.
I know somewhere some Wondo hater is saying how his goal which broke the record was another Wondo "trash poaching" goal.
Well, I'm certainly glad I was at that game, and credit to Wondolowski for putting in four. It was an unexpected and fantastic surprise. Frankly, I'm relieved the quest to break the record is over so we don't have to consider it with regard to him getting playing time, but he deserved every minute he was out there in this one so I certainly can't take anything away from him. Espinoza probably deserved a goal as well. He was fantastic and is shaping up to be the best Fioranelli signing. Games in the rain are always interesting because the ball just doesn't do what you expect. It made the early going pretty chaotic, but San Jose figured it out and while there were a few scary moments, they were almost all self-inflicted, rather than Chicago being good. They barely had the ball in the game. Almeyda has done such a great job so far of turning the team into believing they can win, and has made them one of the more entertaining teams in the league.
I was in a jersey and shorts, like usually. Tyff is my witness. My mother always said I'm not smart enough to come in out of the rain.
I was thinking as it was unfolding that this is the happiest I've been as a Quakes fan since that game.
My daughter had a bridal shower tea today, for her upcoming nuptials, next month. Yup, I wore this today. (She’s the one that works for FCD retail at Toyota Park) I’m still amazed by the game today. A guy at the cigar place I went to with my future son-in-law, told me, “Nice jersey.”
Yes, it was rainy, but it wasn't the 2011 Opening Night deluge. Put on some layers and top it off with a rain jacket and you're fine.
Yeah, lots of people moved up. We just brought a towel for the seats and ponchos our ourselves. In a poncho and fleece the weather was fine. And I am very much a warm weather person.
From my watching the highlights, it was fairly evident the Quakes were taking shots at the endline and goal. Not necessarily on goal, but they were directed that way. My favorite HS soccer coach (Vic Maestas) had a theory, take four shots, one will go in. Bomb it from outside, and the tap-ins will be easy.
i'm late to the party here, but just wanted to say: put up the statue now! why wait till he retires. and finish the roof!
To paraphrase, the announcers during the recap, they said that Daniel Vega must put the Quakes fans in distress when he plays the ball out of the back, with his feet. WTBS, I have more confidence in Daniel Vega, than any GK, since Jon Busch. 2 cents. The Chicago goal was deflected, if not could have been a PK for handball. As for the first chance, he had to be real lucky not to have conceded. It might have changed the match, for the worse.
Yeah, I like Vega. His blunder today was pretty bad, and the one against lafc but other than those two I think he’s been pretty solid. I would also say he’s our best keeper since Busch.
There's a segment of the crowd that should always keep their shirts on. Looks like you might win our bet Don, only 9 more wins to go.
True, and if Wondo hadn't gotten the third goal, the Chicago player who so brutally fouled Espinoza would have been sent off. My comment as well, looking over at the stands. Though I appreciate their passion, and remember seeing them shirtless in Denver with temps in the 20s. (And we still lost that game.)
