Another way for the club to drum up money....A girls academy! NEWS: Earthquakes Hire Andres Deza as Girls Academy Director ...
Seattle opens up California talent pipeline with Merced Soccer Academy partnership San Jose to Merced is 78 miles, which likely puts it inside the Quakes' territory: I wonder if the Quakes will do anything about it...
Couldn't find anything on Alejandro Lopez's passing based on a quick Google search. Looks like he was in the Quakes Academy program in 2015-16 but may also have been in the RSL Academy program, as well. RIP.
This is strange, all three goalkeepers on the U-20 World Cup roster have a bay area connection: USA U-20 WORLD CUP ROSTER
So he drowned? Seemed he was unconscious when brought back to the beach. But article says massive infection. The reporting on this has been confusing. Tragic nonetheless.
Since I've moved out of state it's hard to fallow what's happening with the quakes. What's the latest on the development of the academy fields, last I read was that they may be placed at the guadalupe Park area near the stadium. What's the delay, seems like a great plan. Helps the city with the much needed additional playing fields for the various youth sports programs.
My understanding is that the Guadalupe River Gardens site has encountered difficulties with obtaining necessary Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval (because of the proximity to the airport) and, therefore, other sites are also being investigated. The new GM is on record as saying he expects the fields to be open in three years, so my guess is that there is either traction on another as yet to be publicly identified site or reason for optimism that the FAA will relent on the Guadalupe River Gardens site.

It looks like the Quakes have one of the 75 mile radius HG territories, so the area appears poachable by other clubs.
If it's 78 miles ways, then in one direction most of the population would be excluded and thus it would really restrict their recruiting because their sitting barely inside a poachable territory.
Do yo have an issue with girls/women wanting to play soccer? God forbid they may want to try to have a professional career, or get some help paying for college doing something they love.
Who said I had an issue with girls soccer? For what reason or purpose would I have an issue with that? I sincerely doubt a girls academy will turn into a professional league just like I've had a 7 year (almost proven) doubt youth players will turn out for the senior team but I welcome as many opportunities the club can bring. Most of all, No I don't have an issue with girls wanting to be pros. If anything, I think it's a great money maker for the club not to mention more chances for players to showcase their talents. That is why I posted it. Maybe more people in the threads should post similar articles especially when you consider anyone rarely does.
The issue I had is with the way you prefaced the link. As if to say the Club is only trying to "milk" the Girls Academy for money, and girls/women's soccer is not deserving of an academy. If I am wrong I apologize.
falvo wrote: "Another way for the club to drum up money....A girls academy!" There was no suggestion, intimation or "as if to say," but a stark, declarative accusation that the girls academy was merely "another way for the club to drum up money." Nothing to apologize for. You smoked him out and he retreated to a more defensible position.
