I haven't heard anything but with the type of stadium they are planning to build they can realistically not start building until August or September and still have it ready for the 2019 season. If we don't hear anything by July my guess would be that they will play 2019 at USD.
Bad news for 1904 FC. Their application to USL was denied, several staff have left with no replacement including the COO. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com...soccer-1904-usl-expansion-20180607-story.html
Guess we can remove the “potential”. https://www.si.com/soccer/2019/06/19/usl-san-diego-landon-donovan-warren-smith?utm_source=reddit.com Play begins for the Warren Smith/Landon Donovan owned team in 2020.
awesome news! stoked SD will finally get an outdoor pro soccer team again. Best thing about it, decent people behind it with Landon Donovan and the USL Sacramento start up guy.
@mod(s): can we remove the "potential" from the thread title or replace it with "official" until the team has a name?
Warren Smith and the new SD USL team we’re out at the Padres World Cup watch party on Sunday with a tent and a feature during the halftime festivities. Good first showing giving out swag and getting their message out to the soccer lovers.
They are doing really well this early...me thinks they sell at least 1K season tickets their first year.
Ok San Diego, what are we thinking for a name and colors for our @USLSanDiego team?— LandonDonovanSD (@SdLandon) July 17, 2019
Just needs to look at this thread got them all covered. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/potential-names.1675622/ Personally still like some combo of yellow and blue, Socker's colors and Charger colors
Most popular names include Athletic/Atletico, AFC San Diego, Mission San Diego. Most popular colors include SD flag colors, brown and yellow, yellow and blue. Thoughts?— LandonDonovanSD (@SdLandon) July 17, 2019
I tweeted them the link to the thread as a further reference point. Would also prefer a blue/yellow to yellow/brown as it better fits with the local soccer/sports history as well as ocean/sky/sun colors. If these would be the possible names I'd prefer AFC or Athletic/Atletico instead of Mission.
That;s my vote too. Both words have relevance in soccer in both languages. A truly Bilingual name for a bilingual city.
I hate AFC or Athletic/o Really want the San Diego city flag colors and Mission SC or SC something...cause it is a soccer club
I love the name Mission. It's unique and has ties to the city. Plus it stays in the same theme with the Padres.
Mission is interesting in that it can point in both directions: backwards to the historical past of San Diego and forwards in the sense that "We're on a mission...to win championships."
USL SAN DIEGO ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY TEAM IDENTITY PROCESS USL San Diego has officially launched a community outreach program to engage San Diegans in the process of building an identity for the team, including its values, the team’s name, the kit colors, the team crest worn over players’ hearts and all those unique qualities that represent what the team stands for. To date, the club has held four listening sessions with people throughout the San Diego region to explore why they love San Diego, what makes them proud to call San Diego home and what they want to see in their professional sports teams. They want to obtain authentic, local feedback on everything from the club’s name and crest to the start date and core values The team plans to launch an official community survey early next month. You can provide them with your thoughts/feedback/ideas/designs by these channels: info@uslsandiego.com https://twitter.com/uslsandiego https://www.instagram.com/uslsandiego/ https://www.facebook.com/uslsandiego/
The Omaha USL-1 team has a survey seeking ideas on colors and crest. I had to chose between 6 (... maybe 8) sets of colors. I wasn't excited by any of them. So I sent the suggestion that Mike4066 had above (post #596) of using the official City of Omaha flag as a basis of their design. The colors are navy and gold (that looks sharp). It has a native American sun symbol in honor of the Omaha tribe along with some pioneers in a wagon (an Oregon Trail reference?). I suspect that idea doesn't fit the predetermined template (but hope I am wrong!)
