Not all of them would have counted against that CBA limit, obviously. And it's just an attempt more to keep thin rosters from being abused, I think. Real Salt Lake in 2011 actually played 34 MLS regular-season matches 3 MLS playoff matches 2 US Open Cup matches 6 CONCACAF Champions League matches That would be 45. I don't know if they had other extraneous exhibitions.
I know they don't count towards the CBA agreement limit, I was just pointing out that some MLS clubs do play quite a few matches. Now that I think about it Seattle played 49 matches last season in all competitions.
You didn't even know about the limit 20 minutes ago. Which is just barely more than Hull City played in the league alone last year.
Thanks to you I do now! The CBA basically puts to bed any thought of a balanced league schedule in the future (in addition to the travel, and cramped window for scheduling matches). So anyways...... any news on San Antonio kicking the MLS Expansion tires some more?
Having a balanced schedule was put to bed long before the previous CBA was signed... Heck, the only two times MLS has had a balanced schedule were while that CBA was in place.
stay in NASL and build it up. Eventually there will be pro/rel between the two leagues anyway. I can't imagine if in 15 years there are 20 NASL clubs, all playing in SSS, with great crowds, that we as a soccer nation would put up with not having promotion. The media, fans, players would not put up with it.
It is just your typical logic from pro/rel zealots. Pro/rel is the magic beans that will spur the growth of soccer to untold heights in this country, all that is required is that it be implemented, and that FIFA and/or the people will force USSF to implement it.
As a soccer fan, I would love to see NASL get to a point where that is even a legitimate discussion to have. But honestly, can we blame these clubs for wanting to get into MLS and ditch NASL? What has NASL done that would inspire any confidence in these club owners that they can run and organize a viable and professionally managed soccer league? Almost none of the teams have any local TV deal in place, they have no national footprint, no major broadcast partner (even minor one to show games), they rely on high school grade web streams for fans to even see their teams play live on the road, no recognizable players outside of 1 or 2 guys, they have few if any major league sponsorship, their website is a joke, and they have yet to publicly lay out a viable plan for growth with any detail at all. NASL really needs to step it up and soon if they want to be a major player in the sport in this country
Just for fun, I noticed that Cavender Cadillac is moving to 1604 and 35. In the event they are selling their downtown property, it would be the perfect location for a SSS. I know the land would be quite expensive, but just think of the possibilities. I played around with Google Earth and the Dynamo Stadium would fit on that and some of the surrounding property right between Broadway and the River. Another perfect site would be the old Lone Star Brewery Site.
