You know that's not what he is talking about. We want our own forum like we had in NASL San Antonio Scorpions. Heck just move it to USL and change the name to what ever the new team name will be. Also this thread will be in the wrong section as San Antonio will not be an expansion topic. They will become the next USL Champion.. SSE said an announcement is coming on Sunday? maybe that is the team name?
FC Cincinnati, Rio Grande Valley FC, and Bethlehem Steel are all still in the expansion section. That's just how this works. And there's no point in making a forum if there's no official name announcement yet.
Well the team name is coming. And if I was The other teams I would be asking as well. Why not clean up the board? Make it easier for everyone to post. I do know that when the team name is announced that the expansion thread will not the thread I will post in. As i plan on putting SA? 2016 on the initial page. Bottom line why not clean it up? Remove old teams and make it right. I do not just accept "this is how it works" if the NASL thread can be right then why not USL? Or is USL third division behind NASL on the message boards.. [emoji6]
Thats exactly what he asked for and thats exactly what I answered. And yes we are working on creating a SA USL forum. Hopefully the powers that be will make it happen by the weekend.
OK. The San Antonio NASL franchise is officially on hiatus at least for 2016. The NASL schedule for 2016 came out and the Scorpions franchise isn't on it. They also finally took the logo off the NASL homepage. The franchise may reappear somewhere in the future.
you will have to pry the trophy from our beer soaked hands. i can feel another back to back championships
Wow.. bringing in Tim Holt to serve as Managing Director of USL San Antonio and VP of SSE. USL San Antonio (@USLSanAntonio) 2 hours ago - View on Twitter BREAKING: Tim Holt named Managing Director of @USLSanAntonio. Welcome to San Antonio @TimHoltSoccer!
Tim Holt is the former President of the USL. Is this the same Tim Holt? EDIT: He is the same. He has been at Orlando City for the last year and helped start their USL team and the new NWSL team there, the Orlando Pride. Looks like a very good hire.
Tim Holt is an excellent choice to lead this team. I have known Tim for over 15 years. This hiring shows that Spurs are working towards MLS. He knows the USL and has a great relationship with MLS. Very excited about this move from SS&E
My thoughts exactly ... they're looking to be setting up for the end goal, NOW ... which gives me a little more excitement to it all.
What does everyone think the attendance change may be from 2015 to 2016? Does anyone think the lack of news/league change/etc. will result in people not coming out? Does the new ownership group give you the opinion that they can attract MORE Fans? 2013 - 2015 were in the 6800-6900 range for the average after a first attendance over 9100. Just curious. Hope to see it get back up in the 8k-9k range!
tim holt or whatever his name is from orlando will put buts in seats. these people probably wont pay for a ticket but id expect san antonio in the 8k range based on holts operations. id expect sac, louisville, cinci, rochester and either okc or st louis to be top 5 attendances
Considering that Toyota Field only holds a smidge over 8K (boxes included) .... I don't see that happening. That's also why we got 9K+ the first year as we played in the HS football stadium across the street. I'm actually curious ... it's quite public that the Spurs are the ownership moving forward with soccer in this city. They even just had an advert (video that was well done) that played during the Spurs game:
I think 5500+ would be a resounding success when the entire picture is taken into account (lower league, new ownership, branding, etc etc etc yadda yadda). Above that is gravy IMO.
I guess I see the ownership change as a positive ... and think the new branding/marketing effort will increase. I hope they don't go down from the NASL average, but we'll see!
Well, depending on what SSE does/how much of an identity or not they give the club .... existing opinions on SSE will be appeased or solidified. In the grand scheme (IE - MLS movement) yes it is a good thing ... but in the meantime we could see some other things play out. Personally I fall in the "it depends on what they do" as to how involved I'll be with my support. I'll still go to a match or two regardless because it'll be my hometown club and my boys will love it. Will my support be on the level it was for the Scorpions? That depends on them ...
Here are some ideas for SS&E on the image of the club. Drawing from the history of San Antonio and Texas for that matter. Brand them as the "San Antonio Texians FC". Texians is what the early settlers of Texas were referred as during the fight for independence from Mexico. In addition here are a couple ideas for the club crest depending how much they want too identify them with the Spurs.
I don't think it'd be wise to be named after a SG of the Dynamo ... I also really hope we have nothing more than the silver/black in common with the rest of the SSE teams.
