I'm not sure but last I heard, the Brazilian Ronaldo owned the Strikers team name and logo. That was 3 years ago though so it may have changed... Beckham knows him well so he may sell or give the name to him.
Well stated! This, along with the Earthquakes' disinterest in putting a quality product on the field, has pushed me to other options. There are better quality (BPL, Serie A, Bundesliga), or more "fan-centric" (USL), choices to be had. At this point I hardly watch any MLS games anymore...sad really, but, you reap what you sow.
Garber gives interview to the Sac Bee: https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article228007129.html#storylink=mainstage_card3 Reiterates Sac & St. Louis far and away the top two candidates; has promised both an answer on #28 before the end of the year and "very likely much sooner than that." My wishful thinking is that this interview with the paper indicates Sacramento is likely next, and that his visit to St. Louis last week was to encourage ownership to hang in there because they're almost certainly #29. Fingers crossed.
Weird, cuz all I heard was Charlie Brown's teacher talking.....wah wah wah, wah wah wah wah. #I'mwithKnave
When @thesoccerdon announces he's coming out here to make a speech, I'll pay attention. In the meantime, I'll stay out here on the ledge and enjoy things in USL. I'm done trying to kick that MF'ing football.
Loons stadium debuts in mid-April. Gold Cup is in June. Fall-summer should see shovels in dirt in Columbus & Austin. Seems like May would be a good time for a big MLS announcement, especially with Nashville & Miami hitting stadium delays. I think you guys are #28.
California must have more teams than Texas. Plus, I think you could (maybe) be ready to play in 2021 & come in with Austin. St. Louis won't be. Nash & Miami next year. Both East. You & Austin in '21. Both West. Chicago can yo-yo to keep the numbers even, if we have to.
Another thing that helps you guys is the weather. With more games earlier now, I think the league wants more warm weather cities pronto. And while you guys are not super warm, you are pretty dry. And certainly warmer than St. Louis. AVG March Temp (H/L) + Precip:. 1. Miami (2020): 80/65, 3". 2. Atlanta dome: 72/72, 0; 65/44, 4.8". 3. Van (dome): 72/72, 0; 51/38, 4.9". 4. Orlando: 78/56, 3.8". 5. Houston: 73/53, 3.4". 6. Austin (2021): 72/51, 2.8". 7-8. LA/FC: 70/51, 1.9". ------------ 9. Dallas: 69/49, 3.5". 10. San Jose: 66/47, 2.5". 11. Sacramento: 65/44, 2.8". ------------ 12. Nashville: 61/39, 4.1". 13. Portland: 57/39, 4.5". 14. Seattle: 55/40, 3.9". 15. DC: 56/38, 3.5". ------------------ 16. KC: 56/36, 2.2". 17. Salt Lake: 54/34, 1.8". 18. Denver: 54/26, 1.3". 19. Cincy: 55/33, 3.9". 20. Philly: 53/34, 3.8". 21. Columbus: 51/33, 3.0". 22-23. NY: 50/35, 4.4". ------------------ 24. Chicago: 47/29, 2.5" 25. Boston: 45/31, 4.3" 26. Toronto: 40/29, 2.1". 27. Minneapolis: 41/24, 1.9". 28. Montreal: 37/20, 2.7". As for the rest, I am a firm believer in 32+. STL will be 29: 56/37, 3.3". PHX favored for 30: 78/54, 1.1". That would give us 12/30 that should be OK, plus Nash, Portland, and SEA/DC being #15 for early season warm weather scheduling. I would expect at least 2 more, possibly 6, with warm (SA, SD, Tampa, Vegas) & warmish (Raleigh, Charlotte, Louisville) candidates predominating. Only cold weather would be Detroit & Indy. If 5/6 are warmies, #18 would be Nashville & early season scheduling gets a lot easier. Give the bottom 5 (or 10) the first 2-3 on the road.
It's pretty warm in Sacramento. This weekend, the last weekend of March, we were in the high 70s. From June through September it's very rare for us to have a high below 95 and it's not unusual for the high to be between 100-105. Our home games in the summer start at 8pm and it's still in the high 80s then. Phoenix is hotter, no question. And we don't have the insane humidity of the east coast, but the heat is a serious factor in Sacramento.
Swap the skyline out for Sacramento's and it looks like you're looking down on Republic beating up on the 'Quakes from the stadium canopy. You'd be smiling, of course.
We gotta move off the ledge, Knave. Burkle wants to put canopy level dining up here. Oh look, you can see the river...………...lol
Proposal to create a "$33 million package of fee waivers, tax rebates, advertising rights and infrastructure financing to boost a soccer investment group’s plans for a downtown stadium" was made today by Sacramento Mayor to help out the MLS stadium site. https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article228782989.html Term sheet can be found here: http://sacramento.granicus.com/GeneratedAgendaViewer.php?view_id=21&event_id=3431 Burkle Quotes SRFC Lead Investor Ron Burkle on the new term sheet:“We'd like to thank the Mayor, City Council and their teams for putting Sacramento in the best possible place to secure an expansion team that is hopefully announced after the MLS board meeting in April." pic.twitter.com/gfZatPIN9X— Sacramento Republic FC (@SacRepublicFC) April 5, 2019 Burkle: “The owners and the Commissioner’s office have acknowledged that Sacramento is 100 percent ready. Everyone has worked hard and we are ready." pic.twitter.com/t7XnDoiom5— Sacramento Republic FC (@SacRepublicFC) April 5, 2019
This morning we'll be joining with the owners of @SacRepublicFC to officially announce our plans to build an @MLS stadium and surrounding development in @thesacrailyards. https://t.co/7DX3mgw24b— @mayor_Steinberg (@Mayor_Steinberg) April 5, 2019 So is Mayor Crapweasel going to tell us anything new, or is he just going to regurgitate the same old stuff? Ya wanna impress me? Start moving dirt. Schedule an appearance by Garber. Until then, FOH.
It's terrible to see all these poor unfortunate fools who still haven't embraced the Doom Ledge lifestyle. Plenty of room up here, folks! Bring your booze! And your tears ...
The issue was never that Sacramento wasn't ready for MLS.....the issue was whether MLS was ready for Sacramento. Thus, the equivocation and "whale" roadblock. This statement does nothing to convince that MLS has moved an inch from that position. Welcome to 2016
Time to come in off the ledge. That is awfully strong language from Burkle. Sac was not ready before because, to quote Dylan, "Pappa's bank book wasn't big enough." Now it is. Sac at #28 in 2021 with Austin. Sac as #29 on 2022/2023.
