Started a new MLS Stadium thread for news https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/mls-stadium-construction-super-thread.2066215/
Wow that's great. Will they fully construct it if they don't get an expansion slot? Do you think they could fill it in USL?
It wouldn't get past the "move the dirt" phase they are in if we don't get an expansion slot. there are some behind-the-scenes handshaking going on. I have NEVER seen a developer begin infrastructure upgrades, and site excavation on a project when they didn't know whether they would actually build or not.
High enough to start excavation of the site and infrastructure work I was told quite a while back (by an impeccable source) that if we start moving dirt, it's a done deal.
Board of Guvs meeting next week. If Garber avoids publicly talking about Sacramento, it's a good sign.
Happened in Kansas City with the old Bannister Mall site that was going to be the Three Trails Site that included a stadium for the then-Wizards. OnGoal had acquired all of the land and gone ahead and finished the mall demolition and had started site preparation while they worked to clear the hurdles some NIMBYs had put in the way. As it happened, the state of Kansas stepped in and the soccer stadium got built next to the Speedway. The Three Trails site was repurposed as an industrial park and development has been continuing as demand develops.
congrats folks! Can't wait to go to a Quakes-Pubic away game. This is close enough to the river that I can have a stroll there yeah? See you all soon!
Well, now this is strange. I retrieved a copy of the now deleted post from Tweetdeck. That's this: That was deleted and replaced by this, which removes mention of Miami: That latter tweet is still up: UPDATE: Kevin Nagle and co are in Chicago over #MLSAllStar to discuss #MLS expansion prospects with Commissioner Garber.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) August 1, 2017
Maybe. But the combination of Miami and Sacramento in the original tweet was certainly grist for the rumor mill.
As far as I know, Sacramento and Miami were the only MLS prospects meeting with the league in Chicago. (Not that I researched this beyond the tweets I posted.)
Funny you said that. Not sure if you just spin doctored that statement, but heard something to that effect from one of my birdies. I.e. MLS having meeting/convos with other expansion teams, but having a "meeting" with Sac. Nagle was in KC over weekend. KC owner in expansion board??? Don't remember- can't look it up right niw
David Beckham addressed MLS owners during meeting in Chicago today, per source. Believe that's the first time he has done that.— Doug Hanks (@doug_hanks) August 2, 2017 The first time? That's awfully surprising.
Garber just announced that the next step for Miami is to just "finalize the details" before Miami becomes a "great MLS franchise." Talking about completing this in the next 30 days.
