Don't forget that Bornstein is reportedly also going to Atlante in Mexico.

Are they cutting salary in order to make room for big-name signings (just imagine if they could get somebody like Nery Castillo)? Or have they just given up? Let's hope it's the former.

If that's the strategy I don't get it. Chivas would be much better off w/ Sacha and Bornstein than with Nery Castillo, in my opinion. Bornstein is a very solid MLS player, and Sacha is a game winner in MLS. Nery is a good player but there's no guarantee he'll be better than Sacha in MLS, and to give up a very good MLS defender to boot as part of the salary dump plan? That would be odd.

There is no way the Bornstein move is a salary dump he only makes 90k which even in MLS is low for a starter.

Actually, we don't know his number. They have not released the CBA (as promised) ior the 2010 salary figures.

I thought Atlante was sending a striker to CUSA, that Bornstein was part of a partial swap.

Yea, Giancarlo Maldonado, the venezuelan goal scorer...... if he is still apart of the deal.

So was there a transfer fee? Seems very un-MLS like to just let him walk away for free with 6 months to run on his contract. (See Yura M. last season)

No idea, but I've read in the belgian press that Anderlecht 3 seasons ago was willing to pay 2,5 million of euros to MLS

But what they paid now, I have absolutely NO idea

Im sure its small, cause it is either get that piddly money they offer now, or sacha runs in the off season there on a free transfer.

hasn't stopped them in the past from making players play out their contracts. I mean if it's small, it's better for the league and chivas to have him stay. now they have to go to the expense and hassle of replacing him.

Bump, just to close the loop on the open question.

There was a transfer fee and it was $750k. Good business by MLS.

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2010/06/wednesday_world_cup_kickaround_1.html

U.S. midfielder Sacha Kljestan, among seven players cut from the World Cup training camp roster, is on his way to Belgium to begin preseason training with Anderlecht after moving from Chivas USA last week. The transfer fee was $750,000, which might not seem like much, but had the process lasted until the end of the season, Chivas/MLS would not have received a penny because Kljestan was in the final year of his contract.

Just like i said, they wanted the money asap cause in the off season he would go there for free anyway.
