Played with this kid quite a few times in the park around the city of Berkeley. Knew he spent time back and forth from Zagreb over the years but had no idea he was so young.
USAprospects @USAprospects 11m REAL interview w/ Dinamo Zagreb's American Youth star '95 Saalih Muhammad. Muhammad should get a U20 call-up #usynt http://vimeo.com/45662904
Interesting interview. It'd be nice to see this kid get a run out for the u-20s, to get an idea of how good he really is. ATM he is kind of an unknown entity. Zagreb's got a worldclass academy so he must be pretty good.
He calls the call: MIDFIELDERS (14): Corey Baird (Real Salt Lake AZ; Escondido, Calif.), Arun Basuljevic (New York Red Bulls; Mahopac, N.Y.), Marco Delgado (Chivas USA; Glendora, Calif.), Luis Felipe (Cruzeiro Esporte Clube; Ouro Branco, Minas Gerais), Ian Harkes (Wake Forest; Fairfax, Va.), Jacori Hayes (Wake Forest; Bowie, Md.), Brian Iloski (UCLA; Escondido, Calif.), Eric Lickert (SC Freiburg; Glotteral, Germany), Saalih Muhammad (Dinamo GNK), Adam Najem (Akron; Clifton, N.J.), Cristian Roldan (Washington; Pico Rivera, Calif.), Herbert Robinson (Club Santos Laguna; Monclova, Coahuila), Joel Sonora (Boca Juniors; Buenos Aires, Argentina), Omar Thompson (Unattached; Miami, Fla.) http://www.ussoccer.com/news/u-20-mnt/2014/01/140103-jan-camp-roster-rel.aspx#sthash.f5lungt7.dpuf
J.R. Eskilson @JREskilson 1h Looks like former Dinamo Zagreb prospect is doing well at PTFC RT @RiseOfTreinador: Saalih Muhammad with an assist to add to his goal. 3-0 What PTFC is this? Partick Thistle? Portland Timbers?
This was from July: In his passionate gofundme.com campaign, 19-year-old Saalih Muhammad wrote about overcoming a usually debilitating congenital disease to become a highly decorated soccer player and youth sprint champion. He is now trying to raise $7,500 to cover airfare, housing, transportation, and food as he trials for teams in countries such as Greece and Germany. After training from ages 16 to 18 with Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, one of Europe’s top soccer clubs, Muhammad is doing all he can to fulfill his dream of signing a contract at soccer’s highest level. “This is the time where I have to put it all on the line, or risk being forgotten forever,” Muhammad wrote on his gofundme.com page. http://richmondstandard.com/2015/07...ising-for-chance-to-trial-for-european-teams/ The campaign page is no longer live: https://www.gofundme.com/yxbxw4
Here's the cached version: After leaving Dinamo Zagreb, I continued my pursuit with the Portland Timbers Academy. I then went onto three professional trials with Sacramento Republic (California), Charlotte Independence (North Carolina), and AFC Amsterdam (Holland). http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...gofundme.com/yxbxw4+&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us
According to a few links, he might be at Croatian lower-division club HNK Đakovo. http://www.djakovo.hr/portal/component/k2/item/1941-marsonia-na-lučićev-pogon.html http://www.transfermarkt.com/saalih-ghana-muhammad/profil/spieler/410583
Got an invite to training camp for NASL San Francisco after an open tryout. http://blog.sfgate.com/soccer/2016/...more-player-signings-including-danny-szetela/
He's joined NASL SF: Muhammad, who was born in Richmond, Calif., and attended El Cerrito High School, earned one of four invites to preseason training camp out of a pool of nearly 300 competitors at the open tryouts. When he was 16, Muhammad moved to Croatia to join the youth academy for powerhouse Dinamo Zagreb for two years. At age 18, he returned to the States, joined the Portland Timbers Academy, and subsequently earned an invite to the U-20 U.S. national team training camp. He returned to Croatia in 2015 and spent the last two years with third-division sides NK HAŠK and NK Đakovo, respectively. http://www.nasl.com/news/2017/02/15/sf-deltas-add-two-more-player-to-inaugural-roster
Unfortunately he tore his Achilles tendon hours before the season opener: ' http://blog.sfgate.com/soccer/2017/03/28/sf-deltas-saalih-muhammad-suffers-season-ending-injury/
Unburying this thread to give Saalih a tip of the hat for this nice USL play from tonight in which, after failing to get an assist, he takes matter into his own hands. Saalih Muhammad with an absolute golazo. pic.twitter.com/LWqY1N0wPC— Matthew Reichbach (fbihop.bsky.social on bluesky) (@fbihop) July 12, 2020
