Corner for England and Stones heads it home, 1-0.

Lingard is fouled in the box, Pk for England. Kane converts it to make it 2-0. The perfect start.

Filthy shot from Lingard in the top corner and it's 3 up for England.

England are rampant: Stones with another one for his brace.

Another Pk for England after Kane is wrestled down to the ground on a corner. He makes no mistake and it's 5-0 (!).

For the record, despite the current scoreline, it's worth mentioning that Sterling has very much been in the periphery of things in the first half. I could see Southgate keeping him on for the whole game to help his confidence. But any calls for Rashford are completely justified IMO.

Has to be the cheapest hat trick in world cup history. Kane has barely touched the ball. Good for my fantasy team however :p.

These score lines will be the norm once the field expands to 48.

Love the enthusiasm of Panama fans after their team scores, despite being 4 goals down still.

He's normally an asshole, but he is bringing it to a new level. His "it's fun when England lose" comment before the match was stupid. How long will we be stuck with this jackass? He's parlayed one World Cup appearance into a career of making U.S. soccer fans miserable.

I'm not Gilma and he could be infuriating at times, but I do miss him. Not going to lie. He definitely has a style that's his own and he loves pushing the envelope, but I appreciated it nonetheless.
His comments about NFL players were typical of him, but at the same token I really hope that is not what got him an apparent lifetime ban.
Often imitated, but never replicated: still holding out hope we'll see him again at some point...

The matchup between Senegal and Japan should be interesting from a physical point of view, with the notable difference in size/height in both teams.

Mane, with a bit of luck admittedly, opens the score for Senegal.

There have been some really nice goals so far in this WC. Wague just added another one to the collection as he makes it 2-1 for Senegal.

But Japan once more come back, with Honda on the equalizer. Japan have done well to keep their heads and stay after it. Another fun game on offer so far.

Coverage keeps saying that six teams have qualified and 5 are from Europe. What is the non-european team? I have looked and can't find Who the reference is regards to.

Did not expect anything of Japan going into the tournament. Pleasantly surprised. Still hope Senegal can qualify with Colombia though.

Argentina have put a united front and denied troubles between Sampaoli and the players. While Maradona wants to meet with the players...

Agreed. His jackass "It's fun when England lose" comment before the game was pathetic, but completely in line with his stupidity year after year, Get rid.

I dread to think what the rugby fans think when they see someone apparently spark out after the back of someone's hand brushes against their face ...

Awesome juking run there from Cuadrado.

Colombia deservedly take the lead: James for Mina.

The pace of that England game was terribly slow..even before it became comfortable. Surprised by how negative both Tunisia and Panama were. That England defence is super weak. I think they'll be ripped apart once the better teams get momentum.
