Please show your appreciation to this great player who played fantastic in goal

he was selected as the best GK by UEFA, making the team of the tournament.

I always defended him, and he was brilliant in this cup

Rui was solid. The best keeper for Portugal ever in this tournament. I will never criticize him for Portugal again. He wasn't at fault for the goals and made great saves when it counted.

I think he's justified his $15M price tag.

Definitely had a fantastic tournament. I can't remember seeing a Portuguese GK do this well in a tournament. We finally had a GK that could deal with crosses and balls in the air.

I will also add that he was cool as a cucumber during the whole France game. This is impressive from a goalie who hasn't won any major Uefa trophy. He brought calmness when our players where really nervous.

He may have his moments in the future, but they are all forgiven in advance. A true legend for his performance against France. Nothing can ever take that away.

rui wasn't my fav GK....but I think after that performance my views have changed. In that final he was getting out of his goal with confidence and made great saves that kept us alive in the game. I hope he continues to play like he did against France....he truly made a difference!

He went for balls he might not have gone for before to take pressure off our defenders. Ronaldo exit really fired up our players.

I believe this tournament elevated Rui to just below the "world class" level. Still a remarkable feat, IMO. Still has time to be considered best PT goalie of all time.

To me the best 2 saves were:
PK against Poland (save of the tournament) and
    Griezmann's header in the final.

The other surprising aspect was that the final was by far his best in collecting crosses and distribution - his 2 weaknesses - but he played completely without fear in the Final.

Anyway, here's a video compilation of his best saves in Euro 2016:

(though few are missing such as Sissoko's 2nd half shot)

Yeah. The PK save was the best.

The save on Bale's shot looked easy but the ball had a crazy knuckleball effect.

He was sloppy at the start, It was a typical nervous Rui Patricio.. After the penalty shoot out he came out the other side a different man.

Rui Patricio was the balls this tournament.

Talk about the PK save all you want, the header by Greizmann was the "wow" moment for me. Idk who else would have saved that

Should we go and review your comments when Eder came in against France? :p

Haha. Might as well review everyone's comment about Eder. Rui has consistently performed for the NT. Had it not been for Moutinhos and Alves ineptitude, we'd be in the final of Euro 2012 cuz of Rui. Eder was coming into form but had never been the same since the knee injury. No one expected that performance from Eder.

Then you can't call people out when you got GOT too. :p and yes, I too thought Eder was just going to win balls and get fouled.

He didn't want Renato in the 23 man roster, so he's not absolved either lol

São Patricio spread his angel wings and majestically defended the goal with miraculous saves and other worldly dives! All hail Rui

Up to the final I always considered Rui the type of keeper who is solid but unspectacular. And by "solid" I just meant he'll save the stuff he should, but nothing else; he won't win games for Portugal on his own. Then he played like a man possessed against France and proved me so wrong.

He wasn't at fault for any goals all tournament and then played like one of the best in the world last Sunday. I will always be able to close my eyes and see that amazing save on Griezmann's looping header in the first half. On top of all his saves, Rui showed more confidence and assertiveness going after balls in the air than I had ever seen him show before for Portugal. He stepped up and played his best on the biggest stage when anything less wouldn't have been enough.

Rui Patricio was the difference in games this tournament something I thought I would never say, for me he had always been a keeper who made the saves he should and had the occasional frango. I have to agree with earlier posters that after the Poland game he has been a different player and much respect to the guy, he proved alot of us wrong and I've never been happier to be wrong.

He was really impressive when he had to be. Unfortunately he does not play like that all the time. But when the big games came around he was there to control the game. Hopefully he continues playing like that buuuuuut I highly doubt it. Props to him though because he was one of the many reasons we WON THE EUROOO
