Moderator note: this thread originated in the Yanks Abroad thread on Rubin's club career at Utrecht. These posts were moved here because they are about his national team play. ---------------------------------------------------- Hopes he gets off the bench.
He had a few moments today ... pretty impressive for an 18 year old with only a third of a pro season behind him ... Klinsmann doesn't really need the guy for two more years until the WCQ begins, so RR is just being tossed out there ... sink or swim ...
Useful but not crucial. He may get some PT there - and I hope he does - but one can play the 2014 WC veterans in the GC and Copa America for the next two years. By 2018, some of them may be getting a little old in the toof while he (one hopes) will be entering his prime.
I think he's going to be on the U20 team this summer for the World Cup and on the U23 team in 2016 for the Olympics
Honestly he is good enough to contribute now with the usmnt. It's ironic that he will probably be on the U.S. U20 WC team ( imo he should be moved up permanently) and Green because he's cup tied won't (not usmnt material right now imo)
Nothing wrong with Rubin going to the U20 WC. He still has to learn how to finish at the adult level. There are gonna be plenty of forwards who are as talented or better than Rubin at the U20 WC. We need all the help we can get.
I think it'd be great to keep him with the U20s next June. That's his age group & that's a good team. I'd like to see what they can do The USMNT still has Jozy, Clint, Aron, & Terrence. Others will come along too like Zardes in January camp There is no need to rush Rubio And yes, Julian could really use the U20s
thought he played really well last night, didn't want him to come off. he had some crafty moves to draw fouls and attention. his undercutting of his man to win the penalty was a thing of beauty. with us playing so poorly, it was actually beautiful...sigh. i can only hope he keeps it up. a very intriguing prospect.

Wait, did the sarcasm fly over my head or do you really blame Klinsmann for Altidore getting hurt and Agudelo failing to sign at a club this year?
Could you link to that particular fire Klinsmann thread? There's a lot of fire Klinsmann threads out there
I'm just saying bc US needs all the help they can get in attack.. The fact that Green will have Rubins spot irritates me. In my eyes guys like Shipp, Rowe, Silva and even Bunbury/Wenger are more ready to contribute internationally than Julian. I like him as a prospect but that's all he is atm. Gold Cup comes around US is gonna get clowned by Mexico and Costa Rica.
Is that why JK started Rubin and Green got 5 min against a great opponent like Colombia? What fact? Stop spazzing over everything and heed your own advice, "Keep calm and eat tacos".
