Wow, that's a good piece of bidness signing Tarley, he and Kreis up front will really help in your pursuit on the C-Rapids.
That is a smart move by RSL to sign him on a loan, that way if he's a bust, RSL won't have their hands tied. Hopefully Tarley can be a star for RSL.
good signing. i just think he would look better in a revs shirt, giving us cover when either of our strikers are called to the nats.
Nice signing. Guys kicks butt in the US Open Cup and shows he has MLS potential. The way it's suppose to work. Good news for the Galaxy in their USOC semis . . .that sucks.
You never know... they may be able to recall him for the game. Leighton O'Brien did some stuff like that...
According to the Thunder, Tarley will come back to play the USOC match for them against LA. And at this point, I would think Washington is gone.
RSL website now touts the Tarley loan as fact, as well as the details regarding the USOC recall. Good on Melvin, hope he does well (and that he continues to help the Thunder in the Cup run as well)!
The official announcement doesn't say anything about a loan. They make it seem like he was acquired outright and even used the word 'transfer'. Anyone else read it the same way? http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20050829&content_id=41271&vkey=pr_mls&fext=.jsp
That's what I got out of it as well. Also, Behncke's gone. I wondered why he wasn't at "Meet the Team Day" last weekend.....
You must have missed this quote in the article then: As part of the transfer, RSL and Minnesota have agreed that Tarley will be available to return to his former team for its 2005 U.S. Open Cup semifinal game against the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Should Minnesota advance to the final, Tarley will be available for his former team for the 2005 U.S. Open Cup finals.
That doesn't mention anything about a loan. It just says that as part of the transfer RSL has agreed to make him available for certain games.
Everyone from the media to the announcers of RSL matches said the Thunder "loaned" Tarley to RSL. I have no idea if its a full signing or a real loan. But Tarley will play for both teams (Thunder in USOC and RSL for rest of regular season).
Last night during the 1280 RSL broadcast, Wayne Scholes said that he was glad RSL signed Tarley and didn't just bring him over on loan. Perhaps they were going to bring him in on a loan but decided to sign him at the last minute? Scholes mentioned that RSL flat-out signed him a couple of times last night.
From today's DesNews article: The Thunder have advanced to the semifinals, and as part of the loan agreement with Minnesota, RSL will loan Tarley back to Minnesota when it plays Los Angeles on Sept. 14. http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,600160201,00.html I am not disagreeing with you. But you asked me why I said "loan". Thats why. Per standard procedure, "I blame the media".
SP: I wasn't trying to call you out or anything. I'm just trying to figure out what the actual deal is. I had originally heard that he was coming on a loan but have heard and read conflicting reports since. That's all. The DesNews article doesn't help much either as it states that Min. "loaned" him to RSL but then RSL will "loan" him back. From that it sounds like neither team owns his rights because it's hard to "loan" someone something if they already own it.
Its hurting my head. Lets just say Tarley is a RSLer that will help the Thunder win the USOC, if he likes it or not.
Of course he'll like it! "We'll win the Cup with Melvin Tarley...." Oh, you meant the RSL part. He seemed to like it well enough last night to score a goal. Not a bad debut, really.
