Moving on, us is 2019? Good grief, talk about playing with house money while keeping the Nick Rimando Retirement on hold for another game at least. Now off to Seattle (where I arrive about 22 hours after game time with no way to adjust my schedule).
Playoff game #2?!? Who even are we?! I'm feeling this weird, unfamiliar feeling thinking about our next game ... Happiness?
I like our chances against Seattle. We match up well against them. Unfortunately, I won't even consider traveling to this one. However, if they beat Seattle, I'm for sure going to LA for another humiliating playoff loss. Red pants will be worn.
I am driving a passenger van full of about a dozen University of Idaho students to Seattle on Thursday afternoon (we're headed to the Gates Foundation for a visit). If it was me going alone, I would move the trip up a day. Alas!
Same here. I have lunch riding on this one with a co-worker in Seattle. Will need to find a place to watch the game.
Beer Bar, Dick & Dixies, Bar Named Sue, and Proper Burger are a few places that are super soccer-friendly. I'd be surprised if there isn't something going on at the stadium or city creek.
Midweek on turf sounds like a sure loss for us, given our history, but this is the one team that we match up with fairly well. This is really where the scheduling of the playoffs benefits the higher seed, though. There is no way our group will be 100% or even 80%, honestly. To our luck, Seattle had to go 120 to get their win. Does Freddy change anything in the XI? Did Plata's late performance warrant a spot over Baird? Did Johnson do anything to displace Kreilach? It's hard to say Glad should jump either of Marcelo or Onuhoa after their performances, but also what did he do to lose it? Some fresh legs in the backline might be a really good thing... I'm not sure what the right lineup is. I'm not sure what the right tactics are, either. There is an argument to be made that we should take it to Seattle given they played those 30 more minutes. There is also the reality that, if we play stretched, we expose ourselves in the middle. This is a game where Freddy can show his coaching acumen and I'm not overly confident in that.
Has there ever been an explanation for why games aren't on the weekends in the conference semi and finals?
My online searching shows that Sling.com is likely the cheapest way to legally stream FS1 ($15 introductory Sling Blue offer). If anyone knows otherwise, I’m all ears.
Even still, why not either have it so the first game was also midweek, or have this week off so that teams are playing at their best, and not on short rest. Just seems weird to me.
They want a weekend off between the conference finals and MLS Cup, and to avoid the November FIFA dates. So you put MLS Cup on the calendar and work backward: 10 November for the Cup, so not 3 November, which means you can't stay on weekends to get there. The conference finals are on Tuesday 29 October, and the condensed schedule is supposed to favor the teams who earned a first-round bye (oops, says NYCFC).
