OneChance scores to make it 2-0! What is this strange feeling I'm experiencing? Could it be optimism? Enjoyment? Satisfaction? This is weird but I like it.
Again, if the snow is as bad as these announcers say, another example why a European schedule won't work here in MLS.
One problem for Petke now will be tempering expectations. This is a rout and could be twice as many goals by now. But Vancouver is terrible.
Let's put this win into context. In recent matches VW has had our number. This was the most unlikely of wins. I kept waiting for Techera to do some Eskimo-looking moves to break our hearts. Right now I'll take any win, but especially a win against those guys.
Are games allowed to end with RSL ahead? This doesn't feel like a loss or a tie, but there's not another possible result, is there?
I'm just going to say it......how the ******** did nobody do a snow angel celebration?!?! Alright, that's all I got to bitch about, what a seriously fun game to watch. I can't remember the last time I was that entertained by an RSL game, just start to finish it was enjoyable, crazy conditions and all. Can't take much away from it, but who cares, just happy to enjoy an RSL game for the first time in forever.
Couple more notes; Wingert as CB didn't kill us... hopefully we don't have to count on that for long, and did we really score a goal off a corner? Cool.
Hurt. A few observations I had. I agree that Acosta looked very comfortable going forward. He also was very good defensively, but he made a couple of very poor decisions defensively in the 2nd half. I think those are things that he'd sort out with more 1st team time. Mulholland had a hell of a game, as did Rusnak, but Lennon was again exceptional. Unfortunately his teammates failed to find him with the switch when he was consistently open on the far side. Seen enough to know that RSL has to find a way to make that move permanent. He also was having a blast in the snow. Toledo was terrible. We are undefeated in blizzards this year. This was reportedly our first of the orange ball, although I remember one against San Jose at RES. I think that may have been open cup. Why no snow angels? I like this higher pressure.
At Rio Tinto. They did say the last Orange ball was in 07 at RES. Outside of KB's weird shoulder charge for a yellow, there wasn't much to complain about. Some good interchange between players, players actually moving for the ball, and some really slick touches in the first half before the snow stuck. Plata and Yura flubbed a couple easier chances in the first half, but at least Yura made up for it in the second. While missing those chances sucks, at least we were finally putting players into those positions. Keep that up and goals will come. Sorry Allen, but Lennon needs to be starting. I could live with Allen as RB with Acosta on the lest, but for the wing spot, I feel like that's Lennon's to lose. Lesson learned on my end. When the forecast isn't great, it's probably a good idea to wear pants and bring more than a light jacket. At least I had a poncho, but I could've made my life a lot easier. Thankfully my parents had a great time, and with the win, this turned into a fun outing, rather than a miserable game with poor weather.
Watching the highlights on this is pretty great. First highlight you can't really tell it's already raining. Each cut to the next highlight just shows the weather getting progressively worse. It doesn't even look like the same game.
