with this being so close to home I've gotta find a way to get out there. Heck, I might start making it mandatory for the kids I coach to attend. I hope the club is smart about this and schedules the academy games at a time that first team players can attend. It would be cool, in fact, to have some of the academy games at the RioT. Not sure if that is feasible. But would make for a good multi game option. Edit: the only game that the first team has that overlaps with the academy being the home team is on 9/23. First team plays Portland while the academy teams play Nomads. I hope the club is smart about this. Use that game as advertising for the academy. Have them play before at the RioT and then have them come out at halftime and introduce the players. Give the players one of locker rooms. Hell, let them use the first team one and make it early
The academy is listed as the home team on 1/20, 2/3, 2/10, 2/24, and 3/3 HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
U16s are playing today, facing top seeded FC Dallas. I can't find a stream yet, but will update this when I do.
Could the academy teams be playing in doors in the full size fields at Herriman during the winter dates?
John Hackworth has called up Taylor Booth and Sebastian Soto to the U17 camp in Atlanta. Booth is among the youngest in camp, and Soto is making his debut on the U17 team.
Thread bump The links in this thread seem to be broken. Does anyone have correct links to schedules? edit: figured it out http://www.ussoccerda.com/sam/standings/regevent/index.php?containerId=MzgzNDMwMA==&partialGames=0
The U19s won 8-0 today. That was without their best player, Taylor Booth, who is presumably still a bit jetlagged after his flight from India. They've now won 5 straight, by a combined score of 33-1. Sebastian Soto has scored 12 of the 33, and 4 of the 8 today. Maybe the DA needs to implement a Champions division or pro/rel or something. Not sure what the benefit is to playing such one-sided games all the time. Ideally a bunch of these kids would be playing with the Monarchs but they'll have to wait til March for that.
I was able to make it to the u17 game with about 20 kids I coach. We then left for a park to have some food and play soccer ourselves (kids attentions spans are only so long). Scary moment in that game, though. It appeared one of the CB's for RSL (forgot his number now) broke a vertebrae. The kid went into a pretty run of the mill slide tackle in the box and initially sat up. However, when the trainer came out he immediately made the kid lay down and called in the ambulance. They air casted him and everything. It was scary. As for your comment on the differences in quality - established clubs like Surf were invited into the league based on their (very good) history of success. Nomads, another Southern California club, is in the league for this reason, as well. I think eventually, when all MLS clubs have more established academies like RSL, they will separate.
More fallout from Javi's departure ... Looks like Santi won't be in the Claret and Cobalt Get to know Santi Morales, who just wants to follow in his father @javi_mo11's footsteps. https://t.co/129riULqhD pic.twitter.com/EqzUlwLU7d— FC Dallas Youth (@FCDallasYouth) November 1, 2017
Wasn't he the one that someone mentioned was already well versed in the art of flopping? Yes, I know I just critsized a pre-teen on the internet. Pre-emptive PC apologies to everyone.
I coached a team that played against him while he played here for Spara. He dominated games but yes, went down a bit too easy for my liking.
eh if Javi moves back then Santi will too. It would have been dumb to not have Santi go train with the FCD academy while Javi was down there.
further I coach a team that plays regularly against the Sparta team/coaches that Santi had here. He's getting better training at Dallas. By a LONNNNNNGGGGG shot.
Taylor Booth looks to be on trial at Schalke. Losing him for free would be a massive loss - he's easily the best prospect in our academy at the moment, and arguable one of the best ever.
But if Javi and his son both move into the Herriman system, it could be an interesting draw for the entire family, no?
I guess I was thinking more long-term potential, but thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure exactly what the ages were for the academy.
Do y'all remember that U12ish team RSL had for a little bit while Bill Manning was still around? They were funny to watch get dominated - both on the scoreboard and in the actual soccer being played.
