Hey, doesn't one (or won) of the MLS teams in California (San Jose) have exclusive rights to anyone from napa valley? Isn't this considered poaching?
I clicked on this article on the MLS propaganda website because Justin Glad was in the illustration. http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...jor-league-soccers-push-produce-next-big-star And for all you who are wondering which RSL academy coach was part of the first batch of 21 and here is the answer. http://pressbox.mlssoccer.com/content/mls-and-french-football-federation-announce-partnership I'm kind of surprised that the MLS went to the FFF for help. I didn't think of the French as having the best academy system given how good their domestic league is. I would have thought the Germans or the Italians would have had a better academy system, but what do I know.
This story is dated. MLS reported they were training with French academies and coaching at least a year ago if not longer, so this was more like a refresher or update then anything new. Also I believe there was some personal connection between someone in the French fed and MLS, hence the connection.
The French pump out great young players, I wouldn't slight them in the least. France has accepted (for the most part) it's role as being a feeder league. There are the PSG type outliers, but for the most part that league has historically relied on selling young talent.
It could also be due to the fact that because of years of French colonialism, France seems to end up with all the young talent from Africa. During the World Cup in Korea/Japan in 2002, the joke going around was that the France - Senegal game was France Team 1 against France Team 2 since most (if not all) of the players from Senegal played in the French league.
Five former RSL Academy players (incl. 4 currently with RSL) are named to the U20 camp in prep for 2017 WC qualifying effort. That's a whopping 21% of the callups. Likely means we'll be short Glad, Saucedo, Acosta, and Lennon for a good portion of the first half of the year.
Sweet! Caesar and Waibel can tape the grocery list of excuses to the refrigerator door and add this just below: 1. We lost our engine, Javi. 2. We lost our best dribbler, Burrito. 3. There wasn't a CB to be found on the entire globe. 4. Shuler was injured on (fill in the date). 5. Sunny was injured on (fill in the date). 6. Plata was injured on (fill in the date). 7. No one likes Yura and won't pass the ball to him. 8. MLS blocked us from signing Messi.
I think the FO shot themselves in the foot by using the "rebuilding mode" excuse ever since Cassar took over. Now there is a fair shout that the team is actually in a rebuilding year, but the excuse will just look silly since they've been touting that for 3 years now.
