For someone so inclined, it would be easy to rationalize the recent form as being the result of Petke’s efforts. And, to be honest, I cannot just dismiss that perspective.
Glad they beat FUKC. Not getting my hopes up just yet. The last couple seasons have dulled my joy in this team. Win a couple, lose a bunch, look great, fall apart. Honestly they were lucky to get a result tonight against a really bad team actually. The next two games I think might show us who RSL really is perhaps. Here’s to hoping they give me reason to believe and shout it out loud.
Agreed. This 3 game home-stand will be a great test. We will need 5 points to keep pace. 2 wins out of 3 against SEA, LAFC, and Crapids would be great.
I found this match to be EXTREMELY entertaining. The speed of play was pretty fast, the energy intense, both teams were so spent at the end, it reminds you of those kinds of summer games where everybody's rubber-legged at 80'. The red card really ended it...and I wager we may see another retro-red from the review board... Baird's taken a lot of grief on this forum but his anticipation and effort were lights out tonight. He didn't just score. He out worked everyone to put himself in positions to score, and he shot well. The burst he put on to create space for that beautiful cross from Sava required anticipation, vision and effort, and he flew up field, settled well enough and struck the ball very well. Other things that impressed me: Herrera's speed and poise under pressure. We have a real true outside back developing before our eyes; The Centerbacks in preservation of the lead - anticipating and stepping up and rotating well, owning the air; The quality of Sava's assist on goal 2...and the quality of the finishing of late. If we could improve a little more at outside back...and get a nice consistent start/sub rotation going on the wings...there's danger in this side. Game 2 of Juarez...we seem to consistently be able to get into and block dangerous spaces..
I'm happy to be eating crow but you can't blame me for being skeptical at the start. Totally responded to the wrong comment. Oops, oh well.
I was at the game last night and while I didn’t call Baird getting the brace in the 2-1 win I did call the score line For what that’s worth. Anyway, my impressions of the team under Freddy is a better balance of defensive concentration with an understanding of what the team is doing when they do go forward. The defense last night was impressive for the most part. As far as the offense, it was good enough but nothing fantastic. Rusnak should have shot that ball on the counter at the end of the first half - the Sporting fans around me breathed a big sigh of relief when he crossed it. A side note, I took my STH gift from 2011 to last night’s game (the pic of the stadium that we had the team sign at meet the team day - such better days then for the club). Anyway, I didn’t get Nick’s signature that night so many years ago so I was determined to get it last night - last chance saloon since he wouldn’t be back here in KC with the club again. A big thanks goes to Randy the equipment manager for giving me the scoop on where to find him after the game. He was willing to get Nick to sign it at a later date if I couldn’t get it last night. In the end I did just catch him as he was going into the tunnel and he signed it for me. His was the only starter’s signature that I didn’t have from that team on that pic so it was a pretty big deal for me to get it. Funny, I got Tim Melia and Donny Toia’s signatures on there as well from 2011 and they were part of last night’s game on one side and the other.
Petke may have taught these players a lot about how to play a certain approach. But, being able to teach it, and being able to motivate it to actualize in play are two different things. In my opinion, maybe the second is lacking because the players are playing afraid of his wrath.
Would any of those things be true with wrathful Petke on the sideline? Much of what you describe by the players is mental adeptness in action. If part of your mind is occupied by angst over incurring Petke's wrath, you are unlikely to think so fluidly.
Speculation. Click bait. Fake news! Just kidding, but I think you're jumping to some conclusions about Petke. Yes, he has a temper, but I've never heard of it being turned against the players. *Not saying you're wrong. Just thinking we're too quick to throw people under the bus here on BS... That's basically what we're known for [emoji2368]
