There's a lot of great stuff in this The Athletic article (paywalled, unfortunately) which reports on a study the league commissioned in 2016. One of the RSL-specific tidbits: in 2015 Salt Lake was one of only four teams to make a positive profit. There other three were Seattle, Portland, and Kansas City. https://theathletic.com/1362372/2019/11/08/
Initial post-season trade window opens tomorrow, closes on Wednesday. Maybe our GM has something cooking?
Matt Doyle recapped the seasons of all 24 teams, in groups of eight (bottom, middle, top); we're #6, and hence in the top third. Scroll down to find our piece here.
We may not have a GM, but we have an Assistant GM as of 1 January. And DLH promises an announcement tomorrow, about something.
This is a bit odd, it almost infers that Elliot will be the made permanent GM, removing the temporary label. Seems unlikely that they'll jettison him, but they just back-filled his previous position. But if that's the case, why not announce him as new GM AND Beltran's assistant role at the same time. Hard to argue with Beltran's assignment - my hunch is he'll be good in this role.
I want Beltran to be President of the club. That's where he would really excel, in my opinion. But his personal taste might mean he wants the GM type role more. That's fine. I agree, he'll do well there, too. Really, I want that guy to be the one who fixes the club pyramid. Fall as GM seems... lazy. Like USSF level of lazy. Doubtful we even interviewed other candidates lazy.
Beltran has shown time and again to be very articulate and intelligent. I've always thought he would excell in a front office role. I hope I'm right and I hope RSL hangs onto him.
Well, the most important position is the first one filled! Jamison Olave has been announced as the Monarchs official Head Coach today.
DLH just said announcement. We're waiting for the big part so Olave as head coach (which, if 6 December is the deadline for the others should have been what we expected during/at the parade) is anticlimactic.
This. While I'm happy for Olave, I was a little disappointed after watching Twitter all day for the RSL announcement. I thought we'd be getting an announcement for the first team.
If you listen to the DLH interview you could tell this announcement wasn't going to be big. Matt's (crossbar/soapbox guy) tweet about it got misconstrued to be "big news coming". My guess GM: Elliott Fall Coach: Jason Kreis 15's reaction: negative
Unfortunately, DLH called and told me that RSL had decided to go a different direction and they would not be needing my services as GM. I guess they decided to settle for Fall (not Fail, not Fail, dammit!) instead. All hail the sacred diamond. Long live the diamond. In diamond we trust.
I would really love if the club looked at the Monarchs and realized this 3-5-2 that Olave went with is actually a really good setup for the current RSL roster. I advocated for that at the start of 2019 and wish we would have seen it at sometime. Johnson - Kreilach Savarino Everton Rusnak KB* Herrera Glad Onuhoa Silva Rimando*
I listened to the interview and I thought he was alluding to an announcement for the first team. It would make the most sense, seeing how roster decisions are currently being made, but whatever. Going with Elliott Fall just seems like a cop-out. Sure, he seems like an intelligent guy and has done a good job, but keep him as the GM over the Monarchs. Promoting an unproven guy, like Waibel, is what got us in the current mess. But what do I know...
You're assuming that the GM didn't. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a GM currently in an unofficial capacity. Whether is Fall or even Kries. (Nevermind, apparently Kries is now a no-go according to KSL) Then again, who knows, maybe we just didn't want to lose Beltran and decided to give him Fall's job and forgot we had an assistant GM after losing a bunch of people.
