Want to see why so many starters* were rested on Saturday at New England? Look no further than New York City FC, which comes to town this week. They play at Dallas on Sunday and so will have a day's less rest than us, and will also travel, so we're going for whatever small advantage we can muster. And hooray to "RSL" and "advantage" being used in a complimentary fashion in 2017. * I should clarify that the term starter has a very strange connotation this season. I have no real idea what I meant, and I am the one who wrote the word there.
I'll go with 7-1 RSL or a total of 8 goals from both sides. If New England can score 4 in a half who knows what David Villa can do to RSL's "Back Line".
Still have a full lineup missing? Well, we know how this back line is even at full strength, so I'm not expecting much. Petke should play whomever, wherever. NY2 3-2 RSL.
The 1st of two matches I am attending this week (i am going to Seattle to see whatever happens there) I think we lose both, I will go with a scoreline of 5-3. Skeptical on the 3 though.
I predict Villa does not play in this one. NYCFC goes Sunday (at Dallas) - Wednesday (at Salt Lake) - Sunday (at Orlando) and he started tonight.
So far, it's the 66th minute and Dallas is leading 1-0. Goal by Acosta. Edit: I spoke too soon. NYCFC just tied the game at the 68th minute. Goal by McNamara. Anyway, RSL wins 1-0. Goal by Schmidt.
NYCFC is more than Villa. He is the guy who makes the final pass or goal, though, so maybe without him we can muster a... yeah that's as far as I could go down that line of thinking. This team got their asses kicked by NE just barely. We're gonna get our asses kicked in this one. I think the scoreline won't fully reflect that given it's a midweek game, though. So I'm going with 2-0. Interesting note from the FCD/NYCFC game last night: NYCFC hasn't given up a goal in the last 15 minutes of a game this year. RSL is almost always trailing at this point of a game. If it's the 75th minute and we're down, I won't blame fans that leave.
Of the 3 games in 7 days, this is the only one, IMO, that we have a realistic shot at getting points out of. Sure, you can point at Seattle and say "well their record is bad" but come on. It's Seattle and turf. We're gonna lose there. That said, best available XI has to be rolled out. VanO Wing? Schu Maund Phillips Sunny Luke Savarino Rusnak Plata Yura Start the kid. We have nothing to lose
Is that why he was subbed? I'll be honest, I watched the game on mute. Good god was it a million times better than having to listen to captain excuse-a-lot
I'm feeling confident about this one, too, and think we will triple our offensive output from the last four games. RSL 2 - 3 NYCFC.
That's what Herr Kapitan said during the broadcast. Whether that is correct or not, I don't know, but I thought it was strange that he got subbed at the half until Dunny mentioned it.
Call me Contrarian RSL wins by accident thanks to an own goal off a pigeon ricochet 2-1 !!!! Supporters groups create pigeon flags and TIFO and the damn bird becomes an unofficial mascot.
I also thought it was mentioned on the broadcast that Beltran and Beckerman might be available, or did I imagine that? I admit to being in a bit of a fog in the 2nd half (or maybe drunk). Or both.
I am really surprised by the optimism here that RSL can score multiple goals in a game... As long as there isn't any snow, I am just hoping for 1 goal and not conceding 3. As sad as it sounds, losing 1-2 would be the best result we have had in a while. Amazing how my feelings can change about this team in a matter of a month. The wheels have come off at this point.
It's because deep down inside, we all want to believe in miracles. Remember the "Miracle on Ice"? Man City winning the EPL in 2012? Tom Brady and the New England Patriots winning the 2017 Super Bowl? The wheels might have come off but if we click our heels together three times and say "I believe in fairies", Ariel will get her voice back and the glass slipper will fit and Prince Charming will come and take us away to live happily ever after in his fairy-tale castle.
