Ceus was born in the U.S. to Haitian parents (and played for the Haitian National Team) so he didn't count as an international. In the MLS Cup year we traded a slot with Ballouchy for Kandji and had a slot already traded until the end of that year in the Christian Gomez trade(s). Internationals that year were Cummings, Ballouchy/Kandji, Smith, Kimura, Murillo (first half of season on loan from South America), Lopez, and Baudet.
Well, at least Portland has a "mathematical chance" to play for. They do play earlier than Vancouver, but they suck on the road and the Whitecaps play Colorado so...yeah... Play-in game it is!
If LA or SEA win the cup does the next Champions League spot go to 4th overall? (FC Dallas) SEA Clinched LA Clinched DC Clinched
It goes: US Open Cup Winner (SEA) Eastern Conference Winner (DCU) Western Conference Winner (LA, even if SEA wins the WC) MLS Cup Winner From then on, it goes to Next Best MLS Regular Season Record regardless of conference. If SEA wins the WC, then LA gets their WC spot since SEA is already in for the Open Cup (even if DCU wins and LA loses this week, giving LA the 3rd best record). Therefore, LA is guaranteed in CCL next year. So YES! The next league spot goes to MLS #4, regardless of conference IF SEA, LA, OR DCU WIN THE CUP. Right now, after 33g, the fight for 4th is: DAL 54pts 16W (plays @home vs POR) RSL 53pts 14W (plays @home vs CHV) NER 52pts 16W (plays @home vs TFC) The Timbers play in Honduras tomorrow for CCL. They are also playing for their playoff lives against DAL on saturday. POR needs to win while VAN, at home, needs to tie or lose to COL for POR to advance.
I'm sure you all will LOVE this headline. RSL say possibility of playing in knockout round "not the biggest thing in the world"
Lol, that's the biggest load of shit I've heard from them in a while, I've heard nothing but "we're doing everything we possibly can to avoid the play-in game, the extra rest is a big thing" for weeks now.
L.A. trumps RSL's new video board... http://www.lagalaxy.com/news/2014/10/la-galaxy-and-aeg-invest-over-15-million-dollars-stubhub-center
I kind of like the fact that about 90% of the folks in our stadium will be able to see the new board pretty easily, instead of having it behind 1/3 of the crowd, the way it looks like it'll be at HubBub. Bigger and more expensive is always better, though. Just ask any Gals fan.
From DesNews: Tough task awaits RSL in playoffs, but Cassar excited for challenge (AP Photo/Rick Bowmer)
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...aims-league-best-fifth-save-week-award-point- Rimando comes in both 1st and 2nd! Add up all the Rimando votes and he gets 80% of all SOTW votes.
Maybe he'll finally get the GK of the year award he deserves. Cassar and Lagerway have been talking it up. Nick's participation in the USMNT this year might also finally break the door down on recognition.
We got out of the group. Now it's time to channel Bukowski and play without fear. It's a handful of games. Anything can happen. Yeah, I know this poem has nothing to do with organized football, but it's the spirit of the thing. We need a little "I don't give a ********" and CB has it in spades.
...said Grabavoy. “But ultimately we know this season is about to start. Now that this game is over, the flip just switches and we think the season is beginning now, and so we all collectively feel that in this locker room that the important time has come.” Wonder if this is a DN flub or if Grabavoy actually said this. Sounds like something I would do.
If Rimando doesn't get keeper of the year this year then I give up. Combine his World Cup selection with the most SOTW awards in the league and the fact that maybe Johnson out of Chicago is the only other keeper really making noise, not to mention that fact that pretty nobody is arguing against the fact that he's the best keeper playing in the USA right now, he should get it this year.
Add in breaking the all time shutout record with fewer games played. He should've had it years ago as is. If he doesn't get it this year it'll be an even bigger slap in the face.
My only fear is that it goes to Bill Hamid. He doesn't deserve it like Nicky does - but DC is going to get a lot of love for their worst to first run.
SoccerAmerica's rankings are back, starting with the defenders. Boswell leads the chase for Defender of the Year 1. Bobby Boswell, DCU 2. AJ De La Garza, LAG 3. Matt Hedges, FCD 4. Nat Borchers, RSL 5. Omar Gonzalez, LAG Re Nat: "Yes, young-stud centerback Chris Schuler improved considerably in 2014m but the league’s third-best defensive mark (39 goals conceded) doesn’t happen without the wily, bushy-bearded veteran. He started all 32 of his appearances and was whistled for just 19 fouls. Borchers provided valuable leadership for a team that missed Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman for a month and a half."
Nick will end the year with more 'Save of the Week' winners than any other goalie with a total of 5. Donovan could extend his second place lead by winning the final week - he's at 3 wins and could move to 4. There are four or five other goalies with a pair of SOTW wins - including Atinella. Hamid and Sean Johnson have none... Is it ironic or fitting that RSL has more SOTW than any other team by a large margin this year? Maybe there's a head coach effect going on?
Sorry I missed this. Maybe there's a re-broadcast. Double double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble. MiB Halloween episode tonight 10ET @NBCSN @RealSaltLake pic.twitter.com/lPK2hBm3YI— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) October 27, 2014
