I just studied the table and it does appear that the Rowdies are mathematically still able to take the Spring championship. Every game counts! Goal differential is the first tiebreaker. If we take full points from our last two matches and run the score up then we could finish tied on 18 points with a couple other clubs. Of course we would need results in a half dozen other matches to fall into place, but at least we have something to play for tonight.
What a horrible match to watch, between the Rowdies play and the Blair Witch Project type camera work. Rowdies were pretty lucky not to go down in the first half and then they get two pk goals to start the second half. After that it was crazy, with everyone running around like headless chickens. Restrepo had an incredible match, which saved the three points for us. Once again, we never looked that dangerous in the run of play. Kudos to Atlanta for a great crowd. Carolina came back to beat Minnesota, so the Rowdies are out of the race.
I thought we looked good for stretches of the game. We controlled the ball well starting from the final ten minutes of the 1st half and through much of the second. Atlanta were unlucky in the first 20 minutes to have not taken a lead, and they woke up after their free kick goal. They are good this year and a win is a win, especially on their field. hoping Carolina finishes them off this weekend and locks up the Soccer Bowl hosting rights.
Most of us like to mock this split season format, but crazy as it is we were still technically in it before last night and we could possibly end up SIXTH. Wild stuff.
I still think he is a downgrade from Jeff, but he has had some incredible saves of late. He also didn't get burned last night. The free kick was just incredible.
