Roster News #MNUFC acquires an international roster spot from the @ColoradoRapids in exchange for $50,000 in cold, hard General Allocation Money pic.twitter.com/DyqY1Tq1lF— Minnesota United FC (@MNUFC) August 1, 2018
So, in other words, we REALLY traded Sam Nicholson and 100k in General Allocation GarberBucks for Eric Miller. Boom. International Slot problem solved.
Sources telling me #MNUFC is in final stages of a trade that will send Christian Ramirez to #LAFC. @TheAthleticSCCR— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) August 7, 2018 *Heart breaks a bit
BREAKING NEWS: Christian Ramirez is reportedly being traded to expansion side, Los Angeles FC.Will update asap with news regarding the transfer. https://t.co/pobgCBJuFa pic.twitter.com/Reg64gWjxr— Northland Soccer Journal (@NorthlandSoccer) August 7, 2018
Final return: $750,000 in allocation money across the next two seasons, plus the possibility of another $200,000 off of incentives, per #LAFC. Unless #MNUFC turns this into a starting player or two in the next 48 hours, a major gamble by the Loons. pic.twitter.com/zepQk6nNaO— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) August 7, 2018
Lot of anger on twitter at the moment. Team social media is getting blasted. Now, as part of this @jeffrueter they must spend that first $350k immediately or it goes away.— Bruce John McGuire (aka Bighorn Cecum Jure) (@dunord) August 7, 2018 They not only better get that #6, they better make the playoffs in my mind.
As I read that Twitter...I'll bet every single team in the league knows we have 36 hours to spend that money. Not exactly a position of strength here. Anybody think we're going to get fair value here?
If we would have beaten Seattle...or were just simply doing better in our playoff push, we might (And Jeff R. was mentioning this as well) they could have at least made an offer for Osvaldo Alonso. Now? Not a clue. The frustration is that there is really not a whole lot to choose from in MLS. They are a high commodity. The plus is....that's a big chunk of allocation money some other teams might covet.

The fine print on #MNUFC's new allocation money:- GAM expires after three windows (in May).- TAM after four windows (in August).- None of the money expires in 36 hours.#RCTID did a great breakdown of what it can be used on after the Nagbe deal. https://t.co/EXeBDmsrs9— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) August 7, 2018 Looks like we are safe on the allocation money. Yeah, I don’t think they are bringing anyone in. *sigh
MLS sources telling @TheAthleticMIN that #MNUFC is close to finalizing a loan for Mason Toye to USL side Colorado Springs #SwitchbacksFC. The striker was selected 7th in the 2018 SuperDraft and has 1 assist in 259 min this season.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) August 8, 2018
Minnesota United taking strong interest in Philadelphia homegrown MF Derrick Jones, a US youth intl who made first start of year at Portland last weekend. Unclear whether a trade or maybe even a loan is realistic. #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 8, 2018
If only we had a USL affiliate where our younger guys could not only get game minutes but actually get used to, you know, being on the field with each other...
Heath also said as of this morning, there was nothing brewing on the last day of this transfer window. The club spoke about one or two things yesterday, but Heath said he will see if anything else crops up this afternoon. Reiterated again #MNUFC won’t make a move just because.— Megan Ryan (@theothermegryan) August 8, 2018 Now, for my own memory...and please correct me if I am wrong They knew Sam C. was not fit last Fall. Or at the very least, delusional about that and our defense as a whole. They knew we needed an experienced DM and CB then. I understand why they would not do it now, but they truly failed in this last Winter. Am I wrong?
So we've actually weakened our roster through this move, unless someone's figured out a way to get GAM/TAM to play defensive mid...
Gambling that Rodriguez makes it. Otherwise...same place as we have always been. If you were to grab a #6, who would it be? I agree, we shouldn't be just grabbing anyone, but that goes to not only the failure last Winter, but without saying it, they are throwing in the towel.
That is a very good question...as you say, quality at that position is at a premium in MLS. I give props to Manny for making a run at Dax. Should have had a plan B when the French guy fell through.
