Benzema is just a bad players.. I never understood him being a starter on that team. But Argentina winning the Cup? according to most people here Argentina has a horrible team and there is not way Messi can lead them to the World Cup...

Curling messi shots don't work on nt keepers ?

Than why is messi leading south American qualifying goal scoring in world
    Cup qualifying?

    Brazil picked a
Bad time to host the world cup with messi in such form...

Oh I'm sorry.. did I forget to mention during the competitive stages of said competitions?

Like.. WC or even Copa America... so long and thanks for all the goals Messi!! all 2 of them! in 3 tournaments....

And why is it a bad time for Brazil to host? I thought Messi couldn't possibly lead the weak Argentinean squad in the WC.. isn't that the apology made for him currently?

^ I agree. It's a good time for Brazil to host a World Cup. If they didn't have home advantage they would have no chance to win. :whistling:

Not trying to derail this thread, but do some of you here really believe Higuain is a better player than Benzema???

Benzema is more gifted and has great potential, but Higuain scores (slightly) more and seems more consistent. At the end of the day, those latter two things matter more.

    I'm 100% not a Ronaldo fan...

And my sarcasm comes from actual things that happened.. like Messi under performing on tournaments...
The second part of the sarcasm comes from everyone saying that Messi under performs because his team is not good, which is ridiculous.

They are both amazing players, but messi is better in my opinion and deserves player of the year. 90 goals in a year is incredible.

One thing is for sure, both players rely heavily on speed in their dribble, they are extremely agile. Which means they are 1 pelvic injury away from being Michael Owens. Another issue is how they will evolve their game to a slower pace game once they get into their 30s, if they can make the transition they'll earn a place with legends.

Messi suffered a lot of injuries early in his career with Barca. Tons of injuries. He’s recovered and is now playing an extreme amount of games and he should recieve a rest but Barcas scoring goes way down when Messi isn’t playing.

Messi amazingly has surpassed what he’s done every single season since he’s been a starter. It’s amazing hoe he continues to improve hims game all around.

I was very specific on the injury, pelvic injury. That's the one players suffer and can't really recover, regardless of how good they were! unless they never relied on their speed. Speedsters that hurt their pelvis become Michael Owens or Kaka.

Messi relies on his speed intelligence supreme
God like touch on the ball, quick turns , he's the complete total footballer

Ronaldo relies on speed on dribble? Ronaldo beating his man on the dribble happens about as often as Haley's commet passes by earth.

Ronaldo is fast but isnt even a top 25 dribble in the world currently

    Ronaldo relies on service from
His teammates, penalties given by refs, poorly set up opponent free kick walls and also relies heavily on the modern football where he manipulates the flight of the ball by striking the ball powerfully and using his "knuckleball" shot technique that is pretty cheap and only
Works because today's footballs are beach balls
    Compared
To older generation footballs, ronaldos shots are borderline cheating in modern football

Messi just caresses the ball into the net
Ronaldo smashes a square peg into a round hole

Both players have such contrasting styles

Messi has a caressing silkly style
Exemplifying the argentine artistry of the tango
He treats the ball the way a man should treat his women, caressing the ball gently but striking it firmly into the net, further underlined the the influence of Catalan artistry

Ronaldo is the powerful brooding opportunist, using cheap techniques (I.e knuckle ball shot, dives , relying on teammates hardwork) an influence form the portugues period of oversees expansion where natives were robbed and taken advantage of , today Ronaldo does the same in the football pitch trying to con his way to victory an the influence of the imperial
Madrid casilians further influences his play

Those are some final statistics, when you consider, Messi creates more, assists more, scores more individual goals, more important goals, more against tougher opponents, gets less service and takes less chances.

Agreed. The second half of this year has shown us who is truly the best in the world.

Lol the amount of idiocy and lack of insight some people have is amazing. To even compare the second half of the season of the two players, while Real Madrid has clearly been self-destructing, is retarded at best. You want to compare, compare when both teams were at their best, AKA the last half of last season.

Ronaldo isn't happy at Madrid he isn't as prolific as before , but still current leader in champions league scoring (inevitably messi will finish top scorer anyways)
I would like to see him back at Manchester united , they appreciated him more

Are we going to simply ignore that last 5 months of the calendar year? We are talking about the best player of the entire year, aren't we? Messi has been scoring important goals for Barcelona and helping them to a dominant 9 point lead in La Liga. What has Ronaldo been doing for the last 5 months? Acting like a pathetic child and only contributing to Madrid's implosion. He can go and be "sad" at PSG or Man City for all I care.

Messi from January through December > CR7 from January through December. Fact.

Ignore? Not at all. Your wording basically said "Hey, Messi has been so much better than Ronaldo this second half of the season. Now we obviously know who the BETTER player is" without any reflection as to why Ronaldo's second half of the season hasn't been stellar. Maybe that wasn't your intention, but that is many peoples' way of thinking and its an absolute farce. It is ultimately comparing apples and oranges.
The first half of the season Ronaldo contributed to an actual title. Consequently, a title Messi missed out on. Messi hasn't contibuted to an actual title yet, albeit La Liga is more or less determined. When both teams were at their best, Ronaldo edged out Messi, because at the end of the day, his goals won them La Liga. It was his goal at the Camp Nou that put La Liga to rest. And yet people forget about these things. It is absolutely absurd.
