Manchester United: With & without Marcos Rojo in the PL since the start of last season #mufc pic.twitter.com/Q8TL6Z0sqq— WhoScored.com (@WhoScored) May 20, 2016
We won less, lost more, conceded more goals, scored less goals when he played. What else do you want Einstein?
Rojo wants to stay with United. http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-has-no-interest-in-leaving-manchester-united
Well he doesn't get to decide. MEN still running that Jose wants to sell 2 CBs and buy one. I imagine those 2 are Rojo and Jones.
He had a good game against Everton as a center back. Him and Jones together even though Arouna Kone was the striker.
In a choice between him and Jones as to who stays at the club, I'd still rather have Rojo staying. I still believe he can make for a solid backup at CB. Jones, as stated yesterday, really needs to play as much as possible and if it he has to go out on loan to do so, then so be it. Rojo for now could do a job as the #3-4 guy at CB and CB only.
i asked this in another thread but it got posted in the middle of some other topic. anyway, i'll try again. how good or bad was Rojo's form in Liga Sagres prior to us buying him? i'm wondering how much merit there was to his purchase even if it hasn't worked out (thus far anyway)
Looks like he's going to head over to Valencia. If I'm being honest, I'd have kept Rojo if this decision was down to ditching one of Phil/Rojo. Sounds like we've turned down a decent amount of interest in Jones, repeatedly.
His first season in Portugal was a real struggle after he arrived from Russia, he was terribly inconsistent and felt like a liability more often than not. But his next season he performed really well, was strong in the air especially on attacking set pieces and seemed to have a real burst of pace to break down plays. But he was also a red card waiting to happen, he must have missed 5 or 6 matches from suspensions alone. I honestly think that he was overperforming but playing at somewhere that was his level. If he goes to spain he'll look good against lower and mid teams but will continue to be useless in the matches that matter
Bit of a minor point but I do think it's worth noting that when we bought him it was for a specific niche, LCB in a 3-5-2, for which he's more well suited than any role in a back 4. He's a bit of a"tweener" now , not good enough going forward to play LB, and not good enough defensively for CB. Had we persisted with that system his time here might have shaped up better. Not saying that justifies the purchase entirely or that it was smart to be buying players primarily based on their fit in a system we were never likely to stick with for long, but I do think it's a factor to keep in mind.
