I didn't know he was suffering from depression.

I don't know how I would cope with losing a 2 year old child. I had forgotten this had happened to him.

I will miss him. All the best for his family.

Robert was an absolutely exceptional sportsman. I really don't know if professional football still means anything to me tomorrow morning.

I'm just shocked. My thoughts are with his wife.

We may never know the full story but would appreciate future updates.

Did Hannover have a training session on Tuesday?
Who was the last player to have contact with him?
Any quotes from Enke after Sunday's HSV match?
    etc, etc...

I am deeply saddened by this news, it was a huge shock when I came back from work, couldn't believe it. Actually, I still can't. He was not just a great goalkeeper, but an absolutely likeable chap who was loved and respected by the fans.

RIP Robert, you will be missed.

    Very sad. RIP.

Yep, looks to be suicide according to early reports. Any significance on the date? Why today?

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

Now what you are going to hear anyway on the date, is that on Tuesday, the national team took up practice for the two upcoming friendlies.

And it is obvious, that this would have not happened this ********ing grey rainy Tuesday, if Robert had been there.

As you surely object, it's not as simple as that. I even agree. Don't ask me if i care, though.

I'm sorry. I just question a whole lot of things right now.

Hope he is in a better place and reunited with his son

Annoyed that the people around him and football colleagues could not pick up that he was in such a state

They have numerous psychological and physical experts in this lucrative sports field

Cannot understand why someone did not have an inkling

i think he was depress and felt abandon by joachim loew, because after he got illness with food bacteria then he lost his place #1 for germany, now he came back and loew did not pick him but neuer and wiese,so i guess it must be hard for him to take.R.I.P robert enke:you are deserve to be #1 for germany on my list!

Robert and his two-year-old daughter Lara, who died in September 2006.

He committed suicide about 200 meters away from her grave.

This is all so unfair. Guess that sounds familiar.

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

C'mon, can anyone imagine that a player would kill himself because of a possible sportive disappointment (i.e. not getting nominated for a friendly)? Robert had a family (wife & kid) and many animals!

If he really suffered from a depression since his daughter's death, I wonder why he didn't get any help/treatment.

I've just read of rumours that his suicide might be related to his mysterious virus infection before the Russia game. Anybody knows exactly what kind of infection that was?

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

I really don't believe anything of that sort. There's more to life than football, even if you've had such an exceptional career as Robert. There have to be deeper reasons. I'd think that losing your child is a bigger blow than losing your spot on the NT for two meaningless friendlies while being assured that you'll go to the WC. But we most likely will never know the entire truth and neither is it any of our business. The more gets dragged through the press, the more his family has to suffer...

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

This feels so unreal. Robert was one of my favorite players and when i first read the news my heart stopped for a few seconds, it just doesn't make sense, i don't know if it ever will make sense. I was lucky enough to go to Hannover last year and watch him play live which was one of my longtime dreams.

Rest in Peace Robert, thanks for being a huge part of our team and our lives. :(

    Re: Robert Enke is dead

Löw could have nominated him and Enke would have been in the DFB hotel in Bonn now. I seriously hope that Löw doesn't feel responsible for this. :( It's just another tragic coincidence.
