The guardian article is interesting as it gave the English some sort of Ego stroke since Rogers came out while "playing" in England.
I think, aside from being in his hometown, that it's not a coincidence he suggested he'd call Bruce Arena to see if he could train with them. No one has more standing or security or respect among MLS coaches than Arena. It's the byproduct of his resume and being the best American soccer coach ever. Bruce will care about winning and if he thinks Rogers, or another gay player, can make his team win more games, then he'll tell his players that's the way it is and they'll act accordingly. This isn't to suggest other MLS coaches - or foreign coaches - wouldn't do the same thing, but not all of them have the respect of their locker room like Bruce does. Again, winning. (The irony, of course, is Bruce is - or at least was - verbally very politically incorrect and has a very definite locker room sense of humor and is from an era and a place when Italians and Jews would play together while calling each other Wops and Hebes and not take any offense to it because, that's just how it was. But, he might make a joke but he'd always have a player's back. )
From the interview on ABC & MLS, it sounds like he would like to come back to the game. Hopefully he does decide to do so, would be a real shame to stay away from what you love out of fear of what others will say. Said to have trained with LA as well.
