    Moriyasu first convocation:

Of course this is not Japan's best team, after all this is just a friendly tournament against weak nations.

Interesting squad, granted it's a friendly tournament.

Daiki Suga, Honoya Shouji, Kiwara Miyazaki, Taiki Hirato, Jun Okano and Kota Watanabe had impressive break out seasons.

Hopefully Moriyasu won't show "bias" towards Sanfrecce players, not sure what Yoichi Naganuma and Taishi Matsumoto exactly achieved this season (Again, granted it's a friendly tournament).

Are there no J1/J2 strikers available? Daizen Maeda and Kazunari Ichimi.

This is basically a C-squad with many names missing out. I could easily name 22 players ahead of these names.

One has to consider that this tournament will be held directly after the end of the season with many U-20 players involved in first-team football needing a break.

Let's see what kind of a team Moriyasu will call-up for official tournaments and when most of first-team players are available.

The first "TAG Heuer YOUNG GUNS AWARD", which chooses the best u-23 players from the J1, J2 and J3 has been announced:

    Kosuke Nakamura

    Milos Degenek
    Yuta Nakayama
    Naomichi Ueda

    Koji Miyoshi
    Hayao Kawabe
    Ryota Aoki
    Yosuke Ideguchi

    Takuma Nishimura
    Yuma Suzuki
    Daizen Maeda

Yet they missed some good guys, like Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ko Matsubara, Kento Misao, kyosuke Tagawa, Honoya Shoji, etc.

I really would like to know how much J League the "TAG Heuer panel" watched this year.

Why? I think most of those names are spot-on. Miyoshi, Nishimura, maybe I wouldn't have picked. Nakayama hasn't been really good this season.

First match, first loss against Thailand. It was desperately bad. Our football is going downhill very fast.

No, excuses. They're getting outplayed by Jakkit and the likes. It's embarassing.

Hi guys, so let's play a guess 2020 olympic team game, just like there is a guess 2018: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/national-team-guess-2018.2012512/

    Here is mine:

    -----------------------------Ryosuke Kojima--------------------------

    Ryo Hatsuse----Koki Machida----Tomiyasu---Daiki Sugioka

    -----------------Justin Kinjo--------Mizuki Ichimaru---------------------

    --Keito Nakamura-----Takefusa Kubo------Tatsuya Ito----

    --------------------------Kyosuke Tagawa--------------------------

It is too early to guess, but where is Nakayama, Issei Takahashi, Itakura, Miyoshi, Koki Ogawa, Doan, Fujitani, Daizen Maeda, Shihashi, Nakasaka and many others who can make the starting line-up ahead of some of these names?

Apart from Tatsuya Ito, Tomiyasu (and maybe Hatsuse and Kojima), I think most of your suggested line-up won't start at 2020 (given their recent development and form, because who knows how they and other names will develop in the next 3 years?).

That's why this a guess game.

Of course everybody here will have a different opinion, so let's each one try to guess the 2020 starting XI and then see who came closest of getting the correct final team.

Moriyasu announced Japan's U-21 squad for the upcoming AFC U-23 championship:

    http://www.jfa.jp/news/00015909/

    GK:
    Ryosuke Kojima (Waseda University).
    Yuto Abe (Ryutsu University).
    Go Hatano (FC Tokyo).

    DF:
    Takahiro Yanagi (FC Tokyo).
    Honoya Shoji (Zweigen Kanazawa).
    Yugo Tatsuta (Shimizu S-Pulse).
    Teruki Hara (Albirex Niigata).
    Taiyo Koga (Kashiwa Reysol).

    MF:
    Ko Itakura (Vegalta Sendai).
    Ituki Urata (Giravanz Kitakyushu).
    Koji Miyoshi (Consadole Sapporo).
    Yuto Kamiya (Ehime FC).
    Tsukasa Morishima (Sanfrecce Hiroshima).
    Ryo Hatsuse (Gamba Osaka).
    Shion Inoue (Tokyo Verdy).
    Akito Takagi (Gamba Osaka).
    So Fujitani (Vissel Kobe).
    Keita Endo (Yokohama Marinos).
    Yuto Iwasaki (Kyoto Sanga).
    Hiroki Ito (Jubilo Iwata).

    FW:
    Daizen Maeda (Matsumoto Yamaga).
    Ren Komatsu (Sanno University).
    Kyosuke Tagawa (Sagan Tosu).

It's clear with this selection and the formation used by Moriyasu in the friendly tournament earlier this month that he (Moriyasu) will going to stick with the 3-6-1 formation he used to play with during his time at Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

There are some players missing such as: Louis Thebault Yamaguchi and Osako (GK), Nakayama, Tomiyasu, Sugioka, Machida and Shihashi (DF), Iseei Takahashi, Ichimaru, Doan, Hiroki Abe,Tatsuya Ito, Takumi Sasaki, Takefusa Kubo and Suga (MF) and Koki Ogawa, Yuya Nakasaka, Mizuki Ando and Keito Nakamura (FW).

While some of these missing players are sure starters (Nakayama, Tomiyasu, Doan, Tatsuya Ito and Ogawa) and others are not, I could say this squad is almost at full strength missing only 5-6 starters.

Japan is in group B and will play against Thailand, North Korea and Palestine.

Looking forward to see how this team will play at this tournament.

aside from Hiroki Ito it seems that he decided to stick with the 1997-1998 mostly.
I think for Doan and T.Ito, he didn't want to disturb their european career, since this competition doesn't qualify to anything.

Not-so-encouraging callups (imho): Tatsuta, Takagi, Iwasaki. Hope they prove me wrong. I'm glad that the coach change finally got rid of D.Sakai and Ichimaru at least...
Not sure why Nakayama didn't make it honestly, as for Tomiyasu it might have to do with his transfer rumors

Tatsuta is huge (almost 190 cm) and as far as I read in some coverages he did well in the friendly tournament earlier this month.

As for Nakayama, Moriyasu mentioned that he left some players who are involved heavily in first team action with their respective clubs and need rest, and others who played for many age-groups this year (Kubo). He provided this justification when he was asked about his decision to not call-up Kubo, as he said it was not just Kubo but there are other players who he choose to left out.
