    Ah, there it is.

That was a good job of sustaining pressure when Latvia couldn't clear. I kept waiting for each Portuguese player who gathered the ball to send some terrible shot skyward because that was exactly the scenario where it tends to happen (for everyone, not specifically Portugal).

Can't complain about where the game stands. It'll be interesting to see how Latvia comes out because they looked a little gassed at the end of the first half and Portugal was finding some space. Score again.

    The legend strikes

First half we weren't very good

We need to pick up the slack in the second half

Yep, and he deserves credit for staying upfield to keep the pressure on rather than immediately getting back to defend following the corner. He fired a shot from outside the box right before the header off the post.

Not a pretty start to the second half, just need to find that second goal before they turn one of these free kicks or terrible Portugal giveaways into an equalizer. This is a poor performance. Latvia isn't even pressuring much this half defensively.

Watching him play for Portugal, Gomes plays more like a guy who paid Barca 35 million to play for them rather than the other way around.

Another tap-in header for Ronaldo thanks to a fortunate deflection over the keeper on a short, endline cross from Quaresma (off the bench).

    Saw this one coming. 3-0.

Latvian keeper plays a short pass on a goal kick to a defender 15 yards away right in the middle of the pitch. He leads the defender with the pass, but Silva beats him to the ball with a slide that kocks the ball to Carvalho, who quickly passes it up to Ronaldo, who slides a quick pass back to the recovering Silva for an easy 1v1 goal.

Welp, that's that. Good result, but it was pretty ugly for the first hour. It was nice to see Portugal look hungry after the second goal and add another.

Switzerland won again, but Hungary lost 1-0 at Andorra - oops. Portugal basically have second place wrapped up at this point as a worst-case scenario.

    Switzerland +9 18
    Portugal +19 15
    Hungary +1 7

The wingers couldn't cross today to save their lives. CR7 right place right time again saves the day. Gelson and Cedric got in each other's way, an experiment that needs work. Was it me or did the CBs looked unsure of themselves like noobies for G's sake? Patricio one good stop to keep a clean sheet result.

This is irrelevant, but France just lost 2-1 in Sweden in the most ridiculous manner. Lloris had the ball at his feet out near the corner of the penalty area and a Swedish player was running at him to force a kick. There were literally 10 second left in added time. Lloris decides to dribble further out and then kicks a low pass along the ground to midfield, which Toivonen fires into the goal with Lloris desperately racing back toward the goal from like 30 yards away.

    Tough year for Lloris.

Both Fonte and Alves made a mistake that against good opposition might well have been punished, to be expected as Fonte and Alves (especially now) are not in the class of Pepe and Carvalho.

I think the adjective to describe this performance is "workmanlike"

We just did the bare minimum to get out of there with the three points, but there were a lot of issues with the performance and midfield, not to mention the potential ticking time bomb with Fonte-Alves at the back, there were a couple close calls.

Nelson Semedo looked like some average joe stole his uniform and played, some horrible touches.

Just get everyone fit and rested for the Confederations cup like Pepe.

Gelson is better off the bench right now with the other options we have.

Moutinho is underwhelming, too slow at times, but lets see if he was just playing down to the opposition.

Andre Gomes is annoying, he cant play on the left centremidfield role like Joao Mario, he's too slow and not dynamic enough. He's better in the centre like he was vs Hungary in March.

Andre Silva has a lot of great attributes but he needs to release the ball quicker, but his movement and presence and link up really free up Ronaldo to find the gaps and get on the ball in space to make an impact.
