After going to the Bosnian Board I thought it'd be beneficial to have an offtopic thread where we can just chill and talk about anything.

Starting off, did you guys hear about that $500 dollar fine for water waste? I know some people are pretty unhappy about it, but we are coming off a pretty bad drought.

I saw a funny article the other day, I think it was somewhere in SoCal, where a couple decided to let their lawns go and not water them (conserving water, avoiding fines), then they got hit with a $500 fine by their city for letting their lawn go brown!

I'm not surprised it's SoCal. I've been to a lot of those super rich towns by the sea and they really do seem like the kinds of places to fine for brown lawns in the middle of a drought.

Speaking of funny, did you hear about that proposal by some rich Billionaire to split California into six states getting enough signatures to be on the ballot? Here's the proposed divide.

He was even on the Colbert Report (like as a legit guest).

As much as I've enjoyed becoming an Earthquakes and Republic fan in recent years, I'm also very psyched for this:

    upload_2014-8-29_8-35-21.png

Not as much for the Packers vs. Seahawks game, although it should be a good one, but just the start of the season in general. This game reminds me of the Lynn Dickey/James Lofton and Jim Zorn/Steve Largent days. Those teams were a lot of fun to watch.

I don't really have a favorite team right now, although I've enjoyed rooting for different clubs over the years. Cleveland Browns and the Cardiac Kids; Dan Fouts Chargers; The Redskins (or, Washington Football Club?) of the Joe Gibbs era; Priest Holmes' KC Chiefs (he was on my fanta$y football team during his peak).

I guess lean 49ers right now. The rest of you?

Vikings fan which means my football season only last about 6 weeks when it's obvious we aren't going anywhere and then I can move on to basketball. Works out quite well actually.

They actually just had a tropical storm lol. With that question answered, how's their College Football team (Rainbow Warriors)?

I know some of you are much more savvy at this than I.

    Maybe it's @Knave?

I've been trying to put a descriptor in the hyperlinks that I insert into threads. For example, I wanted to change the appearance of the link:

    http://www.sacbee.com/2014/08/28/6661769/elk-grove-says-major-league-soccer.html

I want it to appear as just the title of the article. The code that I'm trying to do that with is:

<a href="http://http://www.sacbee.com/2014/08/28/6661769/elk-grove-says-major-league-soccer.html">MLS says it will visit elk grove next month</a>

And you can see how that works out. I haven't found a solution on the Big Board technical forum, though I haven't tried posting the question there, yet.

    Help?

I don't know, but I don't think they've been all that good since June Jones left as their head coach.

    In the reply/new thread box:

    Step 1: Type your text.
    Step 2: Highlight your text.
Step 3: Hit the link icon above the box.
Step 4: Paste and insert your link.

    Done.

The code for this "Sacramento Republic FC" looks like this:
    Code:
    [URL='http://www.sacrepublicfc.com/']Sacramento Republic FC[/URL]

I've got a techie question. How do you quote someone's post, and break that post into different sections? I've resorted into re-quoting, and deleting the parts I'm not referring to. Very cumbersome.

    Thanks

I usually just copy/paste the stuff in brackets. So there's a "[QUOTE...." piece and a "[/QUOTE." piece, I just add those in where necessary. Not sure if there is a better way, but I'd like to know ;)

Any style of food/atmosphere you are looking for? Our favorite in town is Magpie - fantastic food and a casual type of atmosphere - not cheap though. If you are looking more upscale Ella is a favorite as well. If you're just looking for good beer there's Pangaea or Lowbrau.

Yes. The King Fire is huge, and getting bigger. There's smoke, ash, and even chunks of charcoal falling all the way into Reno.

Unbelievable that one arsonist could do so much damage. Really, it's just insane. It's like an act of terrorism.
