Quintero es mejor como recambio que como inicialista.

Si empieza se ahoga rapido como el partido con racing....

es mejor que entre fresco y el otro equipo desgastado

Looks like Quintero is getting the start over Mora... ojala aproveche la oportunidad Juanfer...

Martinez Quarta, who has been rather poor since returning from his suspension, will also start tonight (replacing Nacho)

Is there any other team in South America that has as much individual offensive technique as us when we have Pity, Quintero, and Enzo together in midfield?

Quintero is becoming my favorite player. He has all the attributes I love in a footballer. The run and pass to Pratto was world class, but so many of his plays are on another level with his movement and intelligence the way he is always looking to receive the ball then move it on. Its not something you see in world football these days, let alone Argentine football.

I guess I should have given Pratto a bit more time, because he is coming good. So many journalists and "experts" go on about the "dirty" work Pratto does- and I never denied he did this stuff or that its not important- but for what he cost, he needed to respond with goals not the dirty work. Now it seems he is doing both.

Oh and what more can be said about Armani? The guy is an animal, by far the best Argentine goalie playing anywhere in the world.

I liked Gallardo's tactical switch to three at the back, its good the team get used to playing in different formations for the future run in the copa... Montiel has been getting forward so well and he really was better than I would have expected in that role.

I have to admit I have not been watching as much of the Copa this year as in years past, but is there a team out there that legitimately say they are more of a candidate than River? Corinthians lost to Independiente for FFS and we have seen Flamengo is good, but not all that. Palmeiras is a candidate, but not the best I've seen... Could Racing seriously mount a challenge? I like what Coudet is doing, but we already proved we are far superior to them when we played them last month...

It would have been interesting to see where River would have finished in the table had Armani been in goal the whole tournament. Not to mention the Libertadores loss to Lanus... Lux was supposed to be a safe pair of hands who would not be spectacular, but also consistent and ended up being as bad as Battalla.

Obviously River's form has been poor throughout this "Superliga," but there also no denying that Lux and Battalla cost us a huge number of points. Not sure if we would have been champs, but we definitely would have been in the Libertadores places.

Anyway, tonight we have a chance to cement a place in the Sudamericana against Estudiantes. Obviously, we can still make next year's edition of the Libertadores if we either win this year's, or if we win the Copa Argentina, a path we took in 2016 thanks to Alonso's late winner.

Regardless of what happens, Gallardo needs to completely rethink the way he approaches the local tournament next season. Its inexcusable to see River so far down the table. I understand the tournament will be only 25 games , which means there should be absolutely NO need to rotate or rest players. In every serious league in the world, they'll be playing 13 games more and playing 25 over a span of nine months is laughable (hell, so was playing just 27, but Gallardo still rested players inexcusably many times)

I think he's shown some willingness to change there, trying to at least experiment with a more stable starting lineup.

I agree with you that he needs to start putting more effort into the League as well, we should be competing for both and we gave up on the League this season even after we lost to Lanús.

I don't mind when Pratto/Mora start over Scocco because that's a matter of tactics and preference. It can be argued if it's the correct choice or not, but it's understandable.... but it's pretty ridiculous when Borre starts and Nacho is on the bench.

Its kind of incredible to think that Borre scored against Racing, San Lorenzo, and also Boca in the summer. He is a player I don't really rate, yet he probably has one of the highest goals per minute ratio in argentine football.

There are so many areas where his game needs to improve, especially his mentality, that I'm still not sold on him, but if he can contribute goals off the bench I'm fine with him staying.

Good win for River to qualify officially for the Sudamericana. Not where we want to be, but there are still two chances left to qualify for the Libertadores in 2019.

We have one more match at home against Flamengo before the world cup, so lets hope the team focuses and can send the fans in the world cup break happy.

My only question is... Will we be without Armani, Enzo Perez, and Quintero for this match? All three were called up for the preliminary squads of their respective nations and I'm not sure they'll be available, which is just typical CONMEBOL to schedule a match after players are due to report for World Cup duty

Alario, Kranevitter, and Vangioni were all part of the NT while at River, but completely lost their spots after moving to Europe to be “more seen.” Driussi, although never called-up, was also on the same level of consideration as Pavon for Sampaoli, but exited the discussion as soon as he joined Zenit..

I hope the current guys (and future talents) take note

Meanwhile, Armani could have gone to Europe to a team like Fiorentina or Sevilla, but he came to River and is now going to be Argentina's number one after the injury to Romero (THANK GOD)

Also worth noting Quintero was pretty much out in the cold, but being at River has not only got him back into Pekerman's plans, but he scored the winning goal in their last friendly.

do you guys watch some of the shows on TyC? Estudio Futbol with Pagani or No Todo Pasa with Azzaro and his squad who yell all show. Quite entertaining at times.

I saw a recent show with Migliore on it basically crying and moaning because he was never called up.

Because Migliore is trash. Trash as a keeper, and trash as a human being, who openly and proudly fraternizes with violent criminals who turn football into a dangerous and corrupt sport.

Our rival in the Round of 16 will come from one of the following:

    Atlético Tucumán
    Boca
    Racing
    Cerro Porteño
    Colo Colo
    Flamengo
    Nacional (URU) or Estudiantes
    Independiente or Deportivo Lara

It's a shame Maidana got a yellow today and will be forced to miss the first leg. Imagine if we get Boca and he doesn't get to play in La Bombonera

Who would you guys prefer from those 10? On first glance, I'd say Colo Colo or Atletico Tucuman, possibly Deportivo Lara (although I think Independiente will go through instead) or Cerro Porteño.

    As for the rest...

Another match-up vs. Boca would be great (although a little too repetitive at this point), but I'd prefer it happen later in the tournament if it were to occur. Racing will be losing Lautaro Martinez during the break, but I'd still prefer to avoid a clash with them.

Independiente is arguably the toughest of the possible rivals.. it would be better to not cross paths, but it would make for an entertaining series.

Flamengo and Nacional, meanwhile, are two teams that are capable of pulling off the fluke even though we should easily be beating them.

Definitely would like a weaker team with no much travel time. Nacional or Estudiantes, Tucuman, or Colo-Colo. River would be massive favorites in any of these match ups.

We got Racing in Round of 16... good thing Lautaro just left!

If we advance, we'll have to take on Independiente or Santos in QF. The only way we can face Boca would be in a hypothetical final.

Its not a great draw because a clasico takes so much out of you, but Racing will definitely be weakened by the sale of Lautaro.

While I'm glad he's gone, it just shows how ********ing stupid CONMEBOL is by making the Libertadores year round instead of following the European calendar- as we saw last year when we lost Alario and Driussi and three years before that when we lost Teo and Rojas, even though we lifted the copa. This year, its looks like we are losing Sarracchi, which is infuriating and I'll go on about in another thread.

Did they get rid of the rule that if two teams from the same nation are in the Semis they have to face each other in the Semis?

I kind of hope they did because it is not needed anymore in my opinion.
