https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/one-killed-in-crash-on-i-270-near-u-s-23-in-north-columbus/ I'm sure many of you already have heard. I don't think he was on here, but he was very active in the Nordecke Facebook groups.
I didn't know him personally but if I am connecting the dots then I coached against him in DSL a lot. Always wore a suit/hat on the sidelines...
His Facebook picture is of him in a suit/hat. I recall a few people wearing such at MegaTailgates. I wonder if he was one. Someone posted that his tickets were in the south corner. I did not know him personally either. But family is family. If you'd like to help his family, here's how. https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/ze78gd
He sat in the south west corner field level. The guy was an unforgettable person. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting him but he definitely bled black and gold. His enthusiasm before kickoff was infectious and he was like in his own little Nordecke down there.
"Visitation will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5475 Brand Road on Friday, February 7th from 4-8pm, with a celebration of life on Saturday February 8th at 11am; reception to follow." https://www.jerryspearsfuneralhome.com/obituary/David-Robers
Our massively-classy FO donated 70 tickets to his friends and family. http://abc6onyourside.com/sports/co...-of-its-most-ardent-fans-the-late-dave-robers There was another Crew fan, Jim, who died just before the 2008 season started. These two seasons started on a sad note. Let's hope this ends the same way that one did. 2020 for Dave!
Try to read that ABC story without your eyes getting a bit misty. And I did not know him. Also, to Jim!
Also Dublin Soccer League is waiving entry fees for his daughters for the next few years. DSL was a big supporter of SaveTheCrew...glad we have partner organizations that care about soccer in this community.
Didn't know the dude and but this story really sticks with me. We have Nordecke & the many supporters groups who are very much ardent fans of the team but in that stadium there are many Crazy Dave's. People who have their own uniqueness and bring their own individual style, flair and energy to the games. In a way I feel like Dave represented them all. In a way I feel like he represented me, a non supporter group member - Just a season ticket holder in section 131 with my family and friends who is passionate about this sport and this team. I've even thought about wearing a suit and fedora hat to a game to show my respect for what he was and what he represented. So glad to see the team step up and show love and support to the family. You could tell how much it meant to them. Hopefully it eases the pain of their loss if not for just one afternoon.
I never met the guy but you couldn’t miss him down there in the front row. His energy and presence was infectious. I couldn’t read the signs they were holding up at the opener but I did see several members of the FO walking up to them. It was an emotional experience just seeing them from where I was in section 119.
