I would have typed that 30 years ago, but honestly, the folks who saw it when tAGS was new and prime time are dying off. Happy Days wasn't nearly as famous, but there are a lot more people around who saw it
Happy Days was the #1 rated show in the 1976-77 season, then 2nd the next year, then 4th the following year. That and the Six Million Dollar Man are the two shows that instantly come to my mind when I think of the Seventies.
That's the show that my son thinks of when he hears the word "Seventies." Hell, that's his major source of information about the decade.
LOL. I'm an in between 70-80s guy, mostly because I have older siblings that were teenagers in the 70s, so I know that stuff, meaning music, tv shows and some pop-culture. Anyways, That 70s show did a good impression of the age, specially with the haircuts and clothes. On a related note, when somebody mentions the 50s, Grease and Happy Days come to mind. Oh and Back to the Future I.
I lived the Seventies, so I don't draw on the shows for my impressions. For the Fifties, however, my sources are from Hollywood. And not shows/films that were made in the Fifties, because those were for my parents' generation. The stuff that came later, which you mention. They are the FIfties for me.
First person in this thread I’ve met. I talked to him briefly at MLS Cup two years ago, the year Seattle won. I was surprised he was there actually, as he’d been relieved of his coaching duties for the Sounders mid season. I wished him good luck in the game as he walked to their box for opening kick, he was pleasantly surprised to be recognized by some random TFC supporter, and wished me likewise. RIP
For me coming of age in the early 80's the account the evokes the 70's the most accurately for me is Dazed and Confused.
And rep to anyone here who knows what TV show spawned Happy Days -- without looking at Wikipedia, that is.
Kind of knew but won’t take credit because I wasn’t 100% sure. Just checked Wikipedia and I had two right (yeah, there’s more than one answer). Didn’t know about Mork tough.
The range of spin-off's from Happy Days is pretty surprising, including at least one that jumped the shark before it even went into production.
The Love American Style aired at least a year before American Graffiti. Also, I'm pretty sure American Graffiti takes place in early 1960s California, not 1950s Milwaukee.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner. I especially liked that Richie and his buddies were a bit more PG than in Happy Days, LOL
American Graffiti takes place in the Central Valley of California. Cruising was a pretty much what you did on Friday and Saturday nights back then -- at least through the late 70's.
I was in high school from 76-79. 'Dazed' had the music and stoners but the idea of high school hazing? First Id ever heard of it.
So why are the flags still at half-mast? Poppy Bush died like 2 weeks ago. Now if Trump bought the farm, there would be a year-long celebration, but isn't it usually no more than a few days, even for an ex-Prez?
