We know there were 2 bids, and we know Liverpool wasn't one of those bids. City wouldn't have a place for him, Arsenal wouldn't have paid that much for him, Totternham is possible, but I think Utd is the logical other team. And I wish he took it.
We've heard there were 2 bids, but the evidence there even was a 2nd bid isn't great, the evidence that it was comparable to Chelsea's is worse, and the evidence that's it's United is poor as well. Even though technically I agree he "fits" there, considering their needs this past summer in needing to get rid of Sanchez and wanting a dribbling option on the right wing. The fact that it's so hush-hush doesn't help, and is sort of a red flag for me... as much as anyone here, you know, a club like United makes an official bid and the info tends gets out there by hook or crook. But yeah, it's certainly possible. They may have bid. If it did happen I'd be pretty surprised if it was competitive with Chelsea's, especially considering the ways in which United have had to spend to strengthen their back line.
Chelsea, he chose Chelsea. I don't think Sarri was much of a factor in the decision if last years reports are to be believed. It could just as easily have been the devil you don't know versus the devil you know.
This is dumb, United fired Jose before January anyways -- that story that said he didn't like Mourinho isn't relevant, Mourinho was gone when he signed for Chelsea.
I think that it was pretty obvious he was on his way out by early Dec if not before. Not sure when it because "official" but if he was seriously considering a serious ManU offer I'd be surprised if that were the "real" reason.
I just did a quick search - there were serious regular rumors he was gone as early as October last up until the 18th when he was finally fired. It seems pretty unlikely, esp given the loan back - that this story is very real.
Not a direct quote, but Zorc supposedly said this... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/09/sports/christian-pulisic-dortmund-chelsea.html
To be fair, CP had not signed a contract extension yet so it is possible that unofficial conversations with other suitors may have occurred before the January transfer window and when United came up, the Mou factor made it a club to "Stay away" from.
Supposedly United in for him next window... maybe more nonsense, but they could use a creative dribbling RW.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles...-sarri-style-of-play-attracted-him-to-chelsea There seems to be some factor in the decesion
I don't think it's out there. ~100k a week seems a safe-ish assumption, considering the fee and his age.
CP was on 1.4 million a year at Dortmund before signing his official contract with Chelsea according to this source. https://heavy.com/sports/2019/06/christian-pulisic-salary-contract-usmnt-chelsea/
That makes sense but I recall someone posted a year or 2 ago that he was on 8 million USD which I thought was Insane. I figured the lion's share had to be endorsements.
It must have been, there's no reason to think he was on decent money at Dortmund. There was no time for him to negotiate for the big payday.
He's actually from London, and he only ever moved to Manchester after signing with City when he was 14...I would love the best young wing in the world to sign for Utd, but I could see him wanting to go home to London
Where he would then beat out Pulisic for the #1 wide forward spot, this thread would explode and I’d light myself on fire
