Richard Wright with "world class" one-handed save on Phillips penalty. Richard Wright had given up the penalty by pushing Quinn. "Won't see a better penalty save."

Li Tie to Radzinski in the box - Sunderland breaking - into the penalty area - Weir defends well and gives up corner.

"Astonishing 3 or 4 minutes of action. Game is boiling."

Clever header by Reyna - ball played around box by Sunderland and ball cleared for corner.

Reyna sends the ball in...Quinn hits the post! Cleared by Everton.

Reyna to Mcann - Piper - corner kick won again.

    17 minutes plus stoppage.

Poor corner by Reyna - Cleared out to Sorensen.

    Phillips offsides.

Alexandersson going off - replaced by Rooney. Li Tie coming off as well.

Gravesen dispossessed by Reyna - ball goes in to Piper - Naismith clears out right.

Phillips dispossessed by Rooney - Reyna does well to maintain possession.

Ball is going back and forth. Radzinski with a nice run but runs through to Sorensen.

Great header by Weir, Radzinski offsides.

Phillips pounces on error in the back but can't finish the chance.

11 1/2 minutes to go. "Nerve wracking stuff"

Brilliant footwork by 16 year old Rooney. Radzinski goes around 3 and crosses in but misses mark.

    Frantic pace continues.

Piper in the box - Naismith clears for another corner.

Reyna with a good corner - intercepted well by Rooney who runs 50 yards before challenged off the ball for throw-in Everton. 16 year does well to relieve some pressure.

Everton with some possession football - Gravesen gives up the ball poorly.

More Everton possession - Campbell with a nice pass to Gravesen - crosses - goes out for throw-in Everton.

Rooney loses the ball - Reyna plays it forward - defended well.

Rooney - tries to get behind Bjorklund and wins corner. "We've got a player here, haven't we."

Short corner - poor cross - poor clearance - Steven Wright clears.

Reyna on the ball - Phillips - wide to Piper - Radzinski goes down and appeals for assistance.

    6 minutes left.

Some Sunderland supporters leaving. (I never get this. Who are these fans who do this with only a 1 goal lead?)

    Radzinski still being worked on.

    4 min plus stoppage.

Great ball in to Butler - into the penalty area - to Michael Gray - cleared.

Everton possession - Radzinski gets in the box but shoots wide. Little more composure needed but he has run himself into the ground today so fans are appreciative.

    90th minute.

Piper gets in a good cross but Richard Wright intercepts.

Piper with another cross - falls to Butler - Babb - cleared.

Rooney to Radzinski - Campbell - Pembridge - Hibbert - Rooney with a bit of naive play in giving up a foul.

    1 minute left.

Campbell may be the first Everton player to score a winning goal at the Stadium of Light.

Rooney takes off alone and takes a shot - goes wide.

    Full time.

Everton's first win at Stadium of Light. "Colossal performance by Richard Wright."

If I were Reid, I would invest in Caller ID.

Didn't listen, but Sunderland seemed unlucky - how many posts hit plus a "world class" penalty save.

Did Everton really dominate that much?

Is there a site that gives player ratings for games in England like Kicker or Sportal do in Germany?

I was thinking he'd be best off investing in a striker that can score. :)

Let us now lament the demise of sports.com.

Nice work on the pbp, folks. I forgot how much fun it was to follow matches this way from work. Obviously, a TV would be better, but barring that...

I just did a quick search on the Sunderland message board, and Reyna's performance is getting universally high marks. In fact, he's basically the only sunderland player getting any praise at all.

    A few of the comments:

"Today one thing did stand out above the usual crap-Claudio Reyna is a World-class player. Shame he plays alongside McCann & Whackiteer."

"Reyna: 7 - Best player on the pitch, well certainly the best in a Red & White shirt. Needs another player of his ability in the middle tho, McAteer and McCann are shite. "

"Reyna is sheer class. Involved in everything and always looking to create."

why doesn't Reid just go to Claudio and say - what will it take - two words - Beasley and Mathis for 5 million pounds together .... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the problem - no offense of any note.

I will tell you this much. I would go out and buy 3 Sunderland jerseys the day they get transfers done for both Beasley and Mathis. The question obviously becomes then, how many foreign players do they have on their roster (non-EU obviouslY). Reyna obviously is one, but the other two I am unsure of.

Second is Clintinho cap qualified for a work permit? I am sure that he will get "credit" for the fact that he was injured, but from my recollection he played in friendlies starting with the Gold Cup (about 2-3 games), Germany, I don't think he was in for Italy but I am not sure, Ireland I think he was in, Mexico he was in, Ecuador I recall he punched someone, then the 3 Road matches he was in 2 I believe, and then in for Germany, Poland, Korea in the World Cup. That is just off the top of my head. I don't know if that is enough. I thought that he would be, but Wolff needed another couple of games to offically be qualified.

I mentioned in an earlier thread, that Reyna seemed to have enough pull to recommend to Peter Reid to give Mols and Flo a try at forward. As a result, I found it surprising that he didn't have the pull or chose not to use his pull to say, Mathis is class.

Clint Mathis has already been approved for a work permit - Blackburn Rovers checked with the Home Office when they were scouting him.
