In watching the MLS All Star match, I marveled at the variety of real talent now found around the league. It is a shame that should the Revs not exist we would see no negative impact on what the league is achieving. ............................. We have gone from crucial to irrelevant.
From Mike Marshall... FWIW, I was told a couple of days ago that the Revs were making progress on signing two new players. One of the new players was described as a DP-level attacking player from South America. If I'm right I want full credit. If I'm wrong, I want zero blame. I think you've been talking to Mike Burns for too long, you are beginning to sound like him!!

And crickets on the Revs site. Which means we are approaching 72 hours after Brad stated he hoped something would be done in 24-48 hours... (Sorry had to copy and paste the following from the locked thread)
very surprised a name or position has not been leaked by now. I am praying for a Striker upgrade or a CB upgrade. Anything less to me would be disappointing
30-year old centerback Mancienne delighted to join Revs: “It was something that I couldn’t turn down” August 3, 2018, 9:50AM EDT Elizabeth Pehota
My bold. Mancienne, who was added using Targeted Allocation Money, will occupy the seventh and final international slot on the Revs’ roster in 2018.
So much for the DP level attacking player from South America. The Revs are out of international slots. On the plus side the Revs added two players in a summer transfer window. Let's hope they both move the dial and help stop the recent slide.
They can trade for one if needed - or release someone (I believe) occupying a slot. ---- Don't know this guy either, but 50 appearances in the EPL and about the same in the Bundesliga, a ton of games in the Championship and more in the FA Cup, Chelsea-trained, captained a bunch of teams, ... A bit older than ideal, but a 30 y.o. center back should have some good years left. Transfermarket has his positions as centerback, RB and DM. My guess is that Friedel is looking for an organizer for the back line and this guy should fit the bill - not sure where Dielna fits in (LB for the short-term?).
Acccording to his wikipedia page, mancienne is primarily a center back but can play anywhere across the backline or as a 6. Defender and box to box midfielder were the 2 positions i thought the revs needed upgrades at the most, and the two signings this summer could address those problems. Wish we found someone who is primarily a left back, but its good to see new faces being brought in
One thing I liked in the press release, and hopefully this continues going forward, was Friedel's influence in bringing in this player.
CB it is! Was hoping for a higher caliber with a better pedigree but I have no issues giving this guy a chance and hopefully he is an upgrade over Anibaba
He played about 10% of his minutes at lb according to matches transfermarkt has data on, the rest being at center back. He plays it as a defense first full back, which is what it is. As to mancienne, hes played the last 4 yrs at nottingham forest in the championship which is a pretty high level. Prior to that he had multiple seasons in the bundesliga and premier league. I would say thats quite a solid pedigree for a guy moving to mls.
I wonder if Friedel is considering a 3-man back line given this signing. Given Somi not quite panning out, Tierney injury, Dielna only doing "okay" at LB, and Farrell, while being a healthy body, very hot and cold. Plus based on Machado, who they chased, and their other midfield players, dropping a player from the backline, maybe gives Friedel more attacking looks that he wants to employ?
Actually, Delamea has a green-card, but that spot was traded to Columbus for the rights to Nemeth. Revs get it back in December.
They also get back nemeth's, who wont be on the team anymore, and possibly dielna's, whose contract is also up
Indeed, and the going rate for an international slot is low: Minnesota United acquire international slot from Colorado for $50K in GAM August 1, 2018, 1:26PM EDT MLSsoccer.com
Mancienne was a hot property for Chelsea back during Mourinho's first tour with the club. Like most other Chelsea starlets, he didn't live up to the hype. He's been a serviceable CB for an unexceptional Championship club. The upside is he's probably better than Dellamea (not a high bar to clear). So expect the Revs to be marginally improved in the back. The question with him is how much does he have left in the tank?
