Reading through the team profiles on MLSnet.com, I came across the Revs playoff history through the first 6 seasons: All-time playoff record: 1-4-0 (0.6 pts/gm) All-time playoff goals scored: 5 (1.0 goals/gm) All-time playoff goals allowed: 14 (2.8 goals/gm) This year we've already done the following: 2002 playoff record: 3-1-1 (2.0 pts/gm) 2002 playoff goals scored: 6 (1.2 goals/gm) 2002 playoff goals allowed: 2 (0.4 goals/gm) So this year's team has increased their goal production by 0.2 goals/game over their historic(?) average, but the real zinger is that they've decreased the goals allowed by 2.4 goals/game. Without the benefit of extensive laboratory trials, I am willing to go so far as hypothesize that there is a correlation between competent defense and winning soccer games.
I just think it's nice that we now have a trophy in the trophy case (Eastern Conference Championship), not that I have any idea where the trophy case is...
