One week from today it will be the offseason, the time when hope springs eternal for the next season. (Although Bilello suggested last evening on Twitter that (paraphased: ) "there is still a chance!". So, yeah, the Revs still have that chance going for them.) He says there is "Lots of work" to be done this offseason. There's a lot of kindly worded suggestions, and some not-so-kind, of offseason priorities in the replies to his tweet below. While not eliminated, slim chances at playoffs now. So who is the next coach going to be? His first task is to manage the protection list for the expansion draft. My guess is that 1) Heaps will still be in charge and 2) he will leave Cropper exposed, and we will go into training camp with Kouassi as the only new player of any significance. He counts, right?
The sad reality is that Colorado and Columbus show you can yo-yo from worst to first, or the reverse, without changing coaches, or indeed without making significant lineup changes. So who really is to say that Kouassi and Heaps won't take us to the Supporters' Shield next year? I love parity, but not for the Revs.
Revs' to-do list: hire a new head coach; or, if Heaps is staying, hire an assistant coach with international experience. select our expansion draft protection list (Agudelo, Caldwell, Cropper, Fagundez, Farrell, Kamara, Koffie, Kouassi, Rowe, Tierney, Nguyen) hire scout(s) fill our four empty roster spots with two starting-level central defenders, a left-footed winger, and a replacement for whoever we lose in the draft (likely either Knighton or Shuttleworth). re-sign Tierney (contract expiring 12/31/16 according to Transfermarkt) If we're not able to get two starting center-backs and a left-footed winger, IMO we should seriously consider trading Nguyen for one of those pieces. The more I watch him play, the more it looks to me like he wants to slow the game down, and everybody else (Kamara, Agudelo, Rowe)wants to speed it up. Depending on Mauro Diaz's health, he might be a perfect option for FC Dallas.
I think" hire an assistant coach with international experience" applies no matter who's the coach. Also, on the expansion list, the Revs need to protect Herivaux. I think they can risk exposing Koffie, who was basically a temp anyway.
As a Home Grown player who is not on the Senior roster (top 18 in salary), he is exempt (doesn't need to be protected).
Mauro Diaz is out for 8 months with a blown achilles. Nguyen returning to Dallas might make sense for Dallas.
I have not seen any discussion of these tweets? Has anybody else seen or heard anything about this possibility? So, my problem with Juan Agudelo is that he's had 10+ European teams fight over him but he wanted to be in England only. That's frustrating— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) October 18, 2016 I hope now that he's a little older (and hopefully wiser) he can see which clubs/leagues can help his development. I mention that because— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) October 18, 2016 I'm hearing there's big interest in Juan Agudelo from Standard Liege. Unclear if bid is coming in winter.— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) October 18, 2016
Koffie's contract is up 12/31/16 I'm almost positive - he's been a good fill in but I doubt we see him in a revs uniform in 2017.
Yep, there's that, plus all the stuff that we got from the Davies trade, and whatever the League gives us in the usual allocation/TAM/GAM handouts. Seems like there should be enough to land a couple of significant players. And the good news is that, unlike 2014, when we went deep into the playoffs and there was no time to scout, we won't have to worry about it this year! Woo-Hoo! Let's just see how long it will take them to hire the next coach. With all the measuring, it might be well into the new year before he's hired.
You say this will a ton of confidence. Given how bass ackwards the revs FO is, we have to wait for them to not give Heaps a raise and new contract extension first!
I fully expect Heaps to be back next year. After all, if it wasn't for all the games we lost, we'd be undefeated.
The Media link will not cooperate, but it appears that the Revs will play in the Desert Diamond Cup once again this offseason. What I wish happens: 1. Heaps fired 2. Burns fired 3. Sign a #10 4. Trade Kamara and keep Diego up front 5. Can we sign Charlie back? 6. Is Feilhaber too old to come back? 7. Use super draft wisely 8. Keep femi Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Charlie and Feilhaber are part of our past. In a nutshell, that's the Revs biggest problem--they keep reaching back to the past to bring back guys who had moderate-at-best success here.I would rather they look to the future and get guys who are similar to them, but have a clean slate.
I think each of these guys left for a different reason, but in general, a new GM, head coach and SSS with grass would make most of these guys come back. Just for fun, I'll just run down a bunch of former Revs and what I think were the main reasons they left (feel free to make disagree) Charlie Davies - Playing time and change of scenery Feilhaber - Head Coach Michael Parkhurst - Stadium A.J. Soares - GM not wanting to pay
Bid adieu to Shuttleworth, retain Cropper. Prepare in advance for Agudelo & Koffee departures. Find a successor to Tierney. Add a starting quality center back.
I'd like to hear Crew fans take on Parkhurst. I didn't see him much this past year, but haven't been impressed. I'd consider Soares.
None of those players are the answer to our problems. In fact, most of those players are just slightly above average MLS players coming at a fairly high price tag.
