Ouch. I was waiting for the first one of these posts - i.e., recalling the oddball or bad things for which they were on the forefront. I bet there may be a few other good ones.
Best of all in this whole article was Burns deciding to use the "12-24 months" reference. I winced when I saw that.
Nonsense! The New England Revolution have been at the forefront of bringing up the rear in MLS for 22 seasons.
I started to read the article, but it just got me depressed. Here is the callout quote from the article that caught my eye: Change that to "how far some MLS front offices..." and the scenario of "just a few years ago" is 2017, 2018, 2019 in Revs-land.
Won't see the revs doing this any time soon. Revs are taking a wait and see attitude in regards to grooming players and USL
Can't wait to read an article with a Burns quote in 2 years about how things have changed so much in the last 12-24 months.
The two players photographed at yesterday's training session are Fredrick Opoku and Moses Sarpong, both 19-year-old Ghanaians. #NERevs https://t.co/aQS1OTYKXJ— Jeff Lemieux (@jeff_lemieux) March 22, 2017
Good to know we've reached the "inexperienced African" stage of our annual player hunt. They should be wrapping it all up shortly, then waiting for the summer swoon to make a move.
Well, they really need to bring in an eventual replacement for Tyranny. He's not going to last forever, and his cultured left foot could pass on some of it's sophistication on to one of these guys. I know Tryanny has often been the whipping boy around here, but I beleve he is well regarded around the league and the club. But one thing the Revs have consistently failed to do is groom adequate replacements to step in when their better players leave or eventually decline. This could be a chance to do just that. Or it could be a totally random chance that these two guys happen to be out of contract, available, and left-footed.
Sherman, set the WayBack Machine to 2007.... I tried to find an article from 2007 on the signing of Nyassi and Mansally (also U-20 Ghanaians at the time) and failed. But I did find this gem: Revs at the forefront of African scouting in MLS By Frank Dell'Apa Special to ESPNsoccernet Apr 22, 2009 Who says the Krafts are cheap?
Anyone have a comprehensive list of Africans who have been on Revolution rosters through the years? All I can recall are Nyassi, Mansally, Osei, Niouky, Assengue(?), and Dube.
