According to this article from the Revs' site, here is the 2017 revs roster status (pre-draft). Note, I have updated the categories based on transactions since the article was published.

    • Brad Knighton – Goalkeeper
    • Donnie Smith – Defender
    • Chris Tierney – Defender
    • Matt Turner – Goalkeeper
    • Je-Vaughn Watson – Defender
    • London Woodberry - Defender
    Players Under Contract for 2017
    • Scott Caldwell – Midfielder
    • Diego Fagundez – Midfielder
    • Kei Kamara – Forward (Designated Player)
    • Xavier Kouassi – Midfielder (Designated Player)
    • Lee Nguyen – Midfielder
    • Kelyn Rowe – Midfielder
    • Bobby Shuttleworth – Goalkeeper
    • Daigo Kobayashi – Midfielder (re-signed)
    Player Options Not Exercised
    • Jordan McCrary – Defender
    • Steve Neumann – Midfielder (now retired)
Players Out of Contract on Dec. 31, 2016
    • Darrius Barnes – Defender (negotiating with other teams)
    • José Gonçalves – Defender
    • Gershon Koffie -- Midfielder (close to signing with another team)
    Players lost in expansion draft
    • Femi Hollinger-Janzen - Forward
By my math, that's 19 players, a game day 18 and 1 poor slob who gets left out. 15 field players and 4 keepers. Insert short roster joke here - if we stayed at 19 after additions/distractions/trades the player salary savigs would be epic. :)

I realize obviously there will be draft picks and perhaps a signing or two (yay optimism), but this is the bulk of your 2017 revs.

Any updates on JoGo's status? Is he in negotiations to re-up with the club but it just hasn't been worked out yet, or should we assume that he'll be elsewhere?

Goncalves was training in Switzerland at the end of December from the looks of his twitter feed. Read into that what you will.

Twellman just said on FB live that the Revs are working on two different players outside of the league and their timeline is 3-4 weeks.

so lets day best case scenario they announce both signings in 3 weeks. Call it Feb 6. Then what another 2 weeks for P1 visa? So they walk on the practice pitch Feb 20. So basically they will most likely miss a month of preseason. If everything goes faster they may get on the pitch for the second or third game of the Desert Cup. Most likely have 2 or maybe 3 weeks before season to get match fit, gel with the team and make an impact with the team. Ideal situation they these signing would be done last week or this week. Better late than never? Also if Twellman is correct and they do sign two players the Revs will need more than that to fill the roster. They have 20 players under contract with the announcement that their 1st rd pick signed with MLS already. These two will make it 22. Say they sign Matsoso and pick #4. Guessing they bring in 4-6 Trialist to round out the roster.

Burns sez they considered making a move "but they also weighed the potential cost carefully in the broader context of this offseason."

The article in the original post had a date of Nov 28th, and 19 players under contract.

    Since then, the Revs have:
    lost Femi to expansion, and
    re-signed Daigo

for a net gain of zero.

Drafting Brian Wright, who came with a contract, pushes us up to 20 players.

In other news, the 2 international slots we traded came back to us Dec 31st. Assuming Goncalves and Koffie don't return, the Revs have 6 of their 8 international slots available.

Training camp opens in six days. Team departs for Casa Grande, AZ in ten days...

Not to quibble with your math, but....

Losing Femi (-1) and resigning Daigo (0) equates to a net loss of one player. By my accounting, given that Goncalves and Koffie are out of contract, I have the score at -2 (Goncalves (-1), Koffie(-1), Wright (+1). Based on this analysis, I think we should have Mike Burns (-1).
The great budgetary news, they can all fit in a VW Microbus.

Huge, huge targets " that we’ll hopefully continue to get some feedback on in the next couple of weeks." That practically screams that the Revs recognize they're far from a first choice on these mystery targets.

I was only counting players under contract. On Nov 28, Daigo was out of contract, so he wasn't part of the 19.

Koffie is gone. He signed a 3 year deal with Swedish club Hammarby a few days ago.

Yes - your math is correct and I accounted for Daigo in the original post. Also categorized our losses, under the assumption Goncalves, Koffie and Barnes would all depart. 19 was the pre-draft working number I had, now 20 with the addition of Wright. If the other 2 draftees sign it's still just 22. With the 2 CB targets, still just 24.

Are we assuming JoGo isn't coming back? I haven't seen him signing anywhere else. I know I'm not alone in thinking that he made far too many mistakes for a player of his pedigree and salary level, and obviously they are hoping the 2 new CBs will make him redundant. But if we get one or none of our targets, is he still an option to return?

Reacquiring players is definitely part of the Revs MO, so I wouldn't be at all surprised.

I really hope he doesn't come back. He was the team's main offender last season, IMO.

honestly I am ready to move on without JoGo. I felt he has been getting worse and worse after his Defender of the Year award. Hopefully they can move on to better

I wonder what the team would look like if JoGo was the first option off the bench?
