I suppose the question for UMB is why not use the entire parcel for student housing? Given their limited space, a stadium seems like an extravagance.
Charlotte takes a small step forward =========== CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Mecklenburg County Commissioners voted in favor of a plan that could bring Major League Soccer to Charlotte, with a $175 million price tag. The board meeting got underway around 9 a.m. Thursday. The vote passed in a close 5-4 vote. Mecklenburg County and Charlotte would split the $175 million, each paying $43.75 million. The investment group of Bruton Smith would pay the other $87.5 million. The county will also loan the team $75 million upfront that will be paid back over 25 years. The deal will last 25 years
It seems like a bit of a ping pong match this morning. Charlotte pulls out of soccer deal, moments after Meck Co approves its part https://t.co/86LSkqOelP #cltcc #meckbocc #MLS2CLT #MLS pic.twitter.com/LAK4rWpayK— John Arwood (@johnarwood) January 26, 2017
yeah. what I am unsure of is the County money now dead or does that still exist if ownership wants to fund the city portion privately?
I am hopeful for Raleigh as well. I saw this on twitter providing a reaction from the Charlotte Independence. Meanwhile, CLT Independence owner Jim McPhilliamy isn't happy. https://t.co/wcRFaGx0zA Separately, Raleigh/Triangle up next in SI's profile.— Brian Straus (@BrianStraus) January 26, 2017
Looks like St Louis got voted down as well. The news today could vault San Diego to the front of the pack. They face a problem with time though as they need approval on their massive plans quickly. At least it is all privately financed though. Ping pong again in St. Louis? A quickly revised STL stadium bill inc a ticket tax has passed. Can't keep track of this and don't know details. See STL P-D's @Mike_Faulk— Brian Straus (@BrianStraus) January 26, 2017
I am so confused ====================== Mike Faulk @Mike_Faulk BREAKING: Ways and Means passes #Mls2stl to full Board of Aldermen after earlier defeat. Vote was 5-4 2:08 PM - 26 Jan 2017 Mike Faulk @Mike_Faulk Now full Board of Aldermen has to support #mls2stl. Will likely need 2/3rds, to suspend rules and pass to get court filings done #mls2stl 2:09 PM - 26 Jan 2017
The expansion news is coming fast and furious as the deadline approaches. The group in San Diego has just booked the USS Midway for a big press conference on Monday at which I am sure more details of their stadium plan will be released https://www.facebook.com/events/369311820112538
cool little soccer stadium being built in Texas. Will open next month for start of USL season. http://soccerstadiumdigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/HEBpark-4.jpg
Thanks for posting that. It does look nice. It's in Edinburg, at the southern edge of Texas, and the capacity is 9,700: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H-E-B_Park I live in Austin. The local USL team had to suspend operations indefinitely because there is no suitable place for the team to play in this city. It seems amazing to me that a town in south Texas can build a 9700 capacity venue, and Austin can't.
Austin's is "Keep Austin weird" -- time for a who invented it poll (Of course the answer is Seattle!)
I'd give the win to Austin. Red Wassenich, a librarian at Austin Community College, is credited with coming up with the "Keep Austin Weird" rallying cry in 2000. I'm pretty certain that the "Stay Weird, Portland" slogan spun out of the "Keep Portland Weird" movement that Music Millennium record store owner Terry Currier launched in 2003. Both are apparently predated by "Stay Smug Seattle".

You guys are killing me. We're heading to yet another one of these threads with absolutely no information to go on. While other teams actually accomplish goals ... this is us.
With D.C. United "breaking ground" finally I think the leagues collective hopes will be focused in your direction. Are we still expecting something in the next year or so?
