$30 and a case of beer. And I'll let you buy them back when Revolution Stadium at Wonderland* is announced. *Not the dog-tracked, the "through the looking glass" where "everything is what it isn't" kind of Wonderland.
When I moved here I didn't know what Wonderland was and had to take the blue line from the airport. I thought it was an amusement park. It's much less amusing in reality.
It was an amusement park, before it was a greyhound park, before it was a parking lot. If you drive up route 1 you'll see an exit for Pleasure Island, which was also a former amusement park. Amusement parks were all over this area.
Ha, that was my first thought as well. I would have grilled that guy to within an inch of his life. "Oh yeah, well can you give an idea of when so I know when to move back? Can you tell me where? I mean, I'll buy 20 season's tickets at the new place so..." And then he starts to sweat and breaks down...
Not that we'll ever have a stadium there...but Pleasure Island was on Route 128/95 in Wakefield...There's a giant office park there and dotted with small ponds. If you have a wet suit and can brave the giant snapping turtles, some of the ride's "cars" were tossed into the ponds.
Just announced -- PPL Park will get this years All-Star game, because, in part, "of the great stadium, the way the sight lines of the surrounding area connects to the city and it's great culture, and how well it will show on television." Hmmm, I wonder why Gillette only has one game on national (if you can call it that) television with UniVision? Is it how well our 6,117 shows on television? Only 11 more months to go before the big announcement!!!!!!!
Interesting, but sounds a good decade away from shovels in the ground with the speed at which things move around here.
I don't post my own links often but seriously... we were talking about this in May... nothing has changed other than Rizzo winning the election http://www.thedrugisfootball.com/search/label/Wonderland
Rizzo told the Daily Item that he had been e-mailing back and forth with Kraft representatives about the idea, but that talks had just been “informative at this point.” Well, at least something has been informative, as opposed to anything the Revs put out. "Informative" = 2020 at the earliest Now, at least we know where the Wonderland option stands so we can put that definitively to rest. Not happening in any relevant time frame to do this floudering franchise any good.
Obviously this doesn't provide any more information than we already had, but I can't see this site working out just because of the massive amount of infrastructure work it would require. If there was already a plan in motion to solve the rotary problems and add lanes to 1A/Rt 60/Rt 16, maybe it would make sense. But a stadium, or any major development that would draw even more auto traffic into an area that already gets a ton for various reasons, would have to be accompanied by a ridiculous amount of road work. I'd love to see it, I live on the North Shore and I think that if all of the work that would be required could be done, it would be a great place for it. But a Revs stadium, a casino at Suffolk Downs AND a major road project in an area that is already a major commuter nightmare and a main access point to Logan? Color me skeptical that this is where the Revs are focused, if they are truly focused anywhere.
Pros: Site is available Access to Blue Line Closer to downtown Boston than Foxboro Cons: Traffic would be nightmare without an infrastructure upgrade If this happens, I would hope for Kelly's as requirement for one of the food concessionaires Would prefer something a little closer to downtown Boston....build a stadium at Bunker Hill CC!
This is as close as we'll ever get. It's not going to be built in an area that's already developed. If anything, it will be an underdeveloped area like Revere. Of course, that's assuming Kraft is serious, which I highly doubt (unless someone offers to build the thing for him).
