No clubs specified, but according to the Boston Globe’s Frank Dell’Apa, “German clubs have inquired about Twellman's availability, and he has ruled out only a return to TSV 1860 Munich, his former team.” http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/262/sports/Earning_power_for_Twellman+.shtml
Good for TT. He has earned the attention he is getting. I have a feeling that 1860 will end up looking like idiots, if they don't already. MLS got the deal of the century but will have to step up bigtime. Can they keep him? (but let's not have a contracts law discussion).
You'll need no discussion. He has a three year deal that is to be renegotiated each season. Almost certainly if those negotiations do not go well he'll have a walk right. He was a tremendous bargain. League minimum? WOW!
he gets the league min. because he if a first year player. There is no doubt that he will get a substantial raise. Revs will have to drop some heavy talent (Llamosa, Rooney, Sommer) in order to sign him and bring in any rumored talent (wolff, moore).
Not really. For 1860 to look like fools, he'd have to step into one of the big Euro leagues and keep putting the ball in the back of the net. That's still a big, big IF.
i doubt that they are regretting it now, but they will be if he ever makes it big with the usmnt or with a euro team they will
An aside, The Globe and the Post are the only newspaper in this country that do a really good job os covering the sport, IMO. On TT, sounds like he's much more interested in getting a league max here than returning to Germany. Remember, he's said it wasn't merely playing time but homesickness and a feeling of isolation after Sept. 11 that led him to walk out on negotiations with 1860. Also, while he likely would have made more than $30,000 a year in Germany, he's not a certainty to make more than $200,000 now if he returns. He's still unproven in the BL, and a lot of teams are struggling after, what, kirtsch TV or whatever, went bust. If the offer is $5 m and $500k a year, he's gone. But my guess is league will pony up and he;ll stay.
Well let's see, he's American, he's got a nice smile, is young and scores goals; which leads to one very obvious question: Who provides his cleats free of charge and what will they put in the pot?
Just some words on it: - I haven't heard of any German club which is linked with him - 1860 wouldn't be made ridiculous as hardly anyone knows that he was under contract there. This would only be a topic when playing successful in Germany. - his market value rises when he's finishing MLS as top scorer. I'm pretty sure that he made 200 K (or at least more than 100) as promising player with 1860 - now he'd earn evidently more. In other words: mschofield's 500K salary are no illusion, but you won't find a team offering 5M or even half of that sum. But I don't want to create speculations, see my first sentence
